My tilt usually kept in the center or favoring the bass side slightly.

I use the master and gain reversed, I set master at 7, bring gain up to the volume I need.

That's about it, never use the boost, but I have a pedalboard full of that type of thing.

Sweet! Again, happy birthday!

I think you can go to EL34s with no mods. I was told the 5881s are to get the amp through the warranty period.

Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!
Read the same thing myself, of course at your own risk........

My knowledge of amps is very rudimentary, don't know about having to check bias etc.... way out of my league.

about what I do.......the Origin really likes my Klon clone ....the 2 together (with a reverb pedal) are FRIGGIN GLORIOUS HOURS OF FUN

I bet.

The Klon type o.d. is a perfect match for the "style" of amp the Origin is.

Another good setting, at leasr for me, is the master on 7, gain about the same and some sort of o.d. with gain low, level high.

Or try to keep the headroom and use the Friedman BE pedal, for the big hair days.

20 watt setting, when I can.

Thanks John. What’s the downside of the 5881s?

They're a sterile industrial tube with not very good musical properties. I was told by a couple of techs that Marshall installs them to make sure the amp gets out of the warranty period for new amps. They are identical to an EL34, so all you have to do is bias the amp. There is no changing of resistors or other stuff involved, as if you were going from 6550 to EL34, or to a 6L6. Maybe Plexi, Ivan, or someone else with better qualifications can chime in. When I went from 5881 Sovtek tubes to EL34s (first JJ, then old production RSD) in my '89 JTM45 reissue, it was a night and day change in how it behaved and sounded. It was good before, and great after.
