Congratulations on the new toy, looks like fun!

It definitely is fun! Even a hack like me can get deliciously obscene noises out of this little jewel! I a/b’d it with my stage right 5 watter and it’s night and day difference, even though they are both 6v6 with a 12ax7 preamp. The new amp is much warmer and has somewhat smoother distortion.

More lucky than anything! I really don’t miss those days. Don’t ever use an Ovation Magnum1 as a gigging bass-they are heavy as a t40 and not nearly as well balanced. My left shoulder still hasn’t recovered!

5 watt tube amps are fricking awesome. They're like the perfect wattage size for a small room, like 12' x 12', where you can max out the amp without the volume overwhelming the room. It'll still be loud, but not brutally-painful-loud. Pushing a tube amp to the edge is very fun and I approve of this message...

Now the fun part! The most excellent bud that built this beast has kindly consented to letting me bankroll another amp: he’s going to clone a Sunn 200s bass head for me. Way back when I was playing the club circuit in northern Alabama, my amp of choice was a 1968 Sunn 200s. It is the only bass amp that I ever regretted getting rid of. Not sure when this adventure is going to begin, but I think it will be a wild ride. Planning on having a 2x10 cabinet built to run it through. Life is great!

I sent Mercury Magnetics a spec request for their Sunn OTs.

I received a reply today which contained a wiring diagram, a note of a 5K primary, and that they are an exact clone of an original. No specifications or other data. Sigh.
