I decided the SG junior was all I need for the time being (I will get a LP P90 before long...), but whilst the THR10 is great, I want something more - thus I ordered, paid and am awaiting delivery.

I considered a few that are available and in my price range.

It will arrive on Thursday, but what amp should I have gotten?

For the price, the low powered Marshall DSL's can't be beat.
So I voted for the DSL5
I have the DSL15 and with just one simple tube change, (ECC823 for V1) the amp is a keeper, even with the $hitty stock speaker.

My advice is to save up and get something good. When I build a guitar amp it takes up to two years to obtain the parts I want. And my best sounding stock guitar amp is a 1960 Fender Concert
I paid $100.00 USD for. I play custom built amps. But I own Marshall's VOX HI-Watt Fender Mesa Dumble Park/Marshall Valco.

I'm just in an apartment, working away from home, I have to at least try to be sensible with regard to cost and volume.

I had one of the Fender Champs and it was a great little amp. But, I went on a selling spree and got rid of it when I bought the VOX MV50.

I also have one of those little Red VOX amps along with a Surf Strat in Ohio...it sounds mediocre at best...

Pleased I didn't get that then. Although, Gahr loves his, so maybe with SGs they do a great job.

I went with the Iommi. Those things sound crushing at low volume and are more versatile that you would expect.

Plus, I've never liked the couple of SS MG Marshall's I've owned. Plus, do SGs even sound good with Marshall amps?

I had one of the Fender Champs and it was a great little amp.

Yeah, I do like the Fender Fuse s/w, and the versatility, but I wasn't fond of the SS Fender amp I owner other than the Princeton and Bassman settings. I did think about the Fender Blues Junior (just seemed overkill for a small apartment & expensive here in Korea) and a little 5w Champ I noticed (although I want a volume and a gain control).

I went with the Iommi.

Yeah, I really like that two; the two power settings would be useful and it sounds great. On the down side, I always have to consider resale here because my contract ends in February, and I may head somewhere else.

Me too. I searched a lot of forums about this, and the folks who have one comment that it doesn't sound good on low volumes; in fact, due to the way the gain and volume interact it's difficult to get any sound at apartment levels.

Anyways, due to it being Buddha's Birthday, it's a national holiday and the amp will be sitting in Seoul for another day or two.

I'm also quite looking forward to A/B-ing the new amp against the Yamaha THR10 at various volume levels - is the Yamaha really as good as folks say against a more expensive tube amp?
(When I had a 5w Bugera head with a decent 10" cab, the Yamaha didn't get much/any playtime.)

HT5. It is a lot of bangfor your buck. WHile it will not rival the cleans of a vox, it is super versatile in sound since it can do metal/blues/clean and in function since it can get pretty load and also do bedroom levels well. I may have gotten the HT5R if I id not have a good reverb pedal on my board

That's a good choice, a much-loved amp by many. For some weird reason, not reason at all really, I've never been fond of Blackstar - ironically, or not, I've owned two Blackstar baby amps (one was a bass amp) and they made great sound for tiny little cheap portable things. I am an ignorant bastardos... But, I'm pretty sure that you'll like my choice (or not).

I think you made the right choice. I dig my AC4. Granted, it is as small amp with a 10" in a small cabinet, so naturally it doesn't sound as full as a bigger amp. But for what it is I like it a lot. I think the 12" will sound better due to the larger cabinet. Normally I would have suggested the AC10, but for home practice it might be a tad big.

Don't trust me, Gahr, I am being tricky on this thread. The new Amp might be a surprise...

But, a 10" or 12" ac4 would have been a great choice. My THR10 does a pretty decent VOX tone at low volumes though.

This video shows off the Marshall well - very versatile, lots of great tones, and with the junior's volume control sensitivity and the channel/reverb dual footswitch that comes with the amp you could be in guitar heaven. I'm thinking a nice light overdriven channel 1 which'll sound great with the guitar volume up, but really clean when the volume comes down, then a nicely overdriven rock tone on channel 2, footswitchable - could be noodling for hours.

I wish I'd gotten one of these...

It's a national holiday today, so I've been rocking out all day (metronome set, building pace on licks and stuff) - the wife is gonna hate the noise I'm gonna be playing this weekend!

BTW, the junior gets better and better...
