NAD Sovtek MIG-50

Ok, first off what they say about it being loud..understatement. I am no fear of volume ever but this thing is a beast

Have initial 15 minutes on it. 2x12 closed greenbacks & 2x12 semi V-type & Crate branded early 90's celestion

Clean- for as long as you want it-breakup not happening without a pedal or its way too loud for prob even in a band

Chan 1 -dark voiced
Chan 2-brighter

what does it remind me of.. Like 67 said, its blackface clean for sure, my initial impression is it stays cleaner longer than bassman equivalent.

What am i going to do with it? humm..first going to use 2 1x12 jensen's semis & play with pedals. I was finding good stuff with volume up just where the tube kicks in with some heft & used pedals. Going to be a pedal platform. More than likely the cab will be in bandroom & will record it until it warms up to be back there. Then we can use it properly.

It did overdrive nice when dimed but way too loud in the front of the house.

Is it practical..nah not at all but come March when a drummer is back there with me should be alot of fun.

Another friend who had one of those was in a touring Ska band. He loved it, as it was a much louder Fender based amp that he used with a Strat, while battling horns and keys for sonic space on both stage, and in the house mix. That's one of those really good live amps.

Alright now ! All straitened out & i like the red knobs lol heck i am not even going to paint the Mustang GT now. Just run the heck out if it & keep building engines.

Found the fine line of where it gets loud quick & have it set real nice. I used these cabs with the jtm 45 & loved it. Mainly using this for the lead. tones, The Jensens in my SuperReverb recorded almost all the leads of the decent music era was making & getting back there slowly. Just need a female singer & would go on a rock/pop binge.

Studio i got it from had a strat to play into it when we jammed it. What a match !! No pedals just dimed it & that start was in the zone.

Hey does anyone know if these channels can be used together? that would probably balance this amp out real well like a 4 holer does.

I have an excellent tech friend who can make anything happen. This just came out a local shop (very good one) it was put back to stock. I twas a touring head for a band from Alabama that they worked with. Stock is real nice.

I had trainwreck 3 MV PPIMV on my marshall 4 holers & a switch to remove it from circuit. Can this be done & what about gaining up one of the channels? Thanks in advance

Reporting back..Went from way too loud on 4x12 set ups to one of the best low volume amps

Speakers !!! The 93 db jensens have the break up built in at low volume. Was able to set to same level as the other amps in recording area. Not quite kick drum level but all 3 amps at the level the power tubes are up in the circuit as part of the equation,

The Meaa rectoverb went bye bye yesterday. 10 years ago-perfect amp. Could not get the tone was looking for. Every speaker & cab i have was tried. Will always cherish the recto songs have done in the past, Recto & jcm 800 together was so darn good.

The amp is set for recording lead tones & big clean, The homemade cabs are very dimensional sounding. Messed with how much to leave open but still have some bottom projection

Reporting back again.. shout out to Howard for those videos at Catalinbread pedals when he was still there. he runs into fender & makes them sound huge.

The Mig -50 was like breaking a horse..lol

Howards.. "foundation" concept has helped me get some of the best tone & what have been searching for.

Foundation meaning that a pedal like Dirty Little Secret (Marshall SL & SB) acts as the amp before your amp

Now!! I am so old school a purist basically, all them songs i record are pretty much strait into amp except the leads using Fender amps.

Put a RAH clone of Royal Albert Hall from CB & it has a super hard boost circuit also,

Get this, a Hiwat style pedal is in front, have the knobs at noon. all it did was change the attack now

Based on Howard foundation principle..Have the RAH, MAD Prof Simple(d-style) & formula 5f6 hot tweed fender as 3 types of flavor

My gosh this amp eats pedals..put a DS1 type back on first time in years, even ramming RATs into it way past what am used to

It just would not break right on its own at the volume i was looking for.

Chan 1 & 2 are very usable but one is super dark & bassy

Might of gone through some gear here lately & getting settled into the keepers so at this age focus on making music not shopping..lol

They are good amps Russia's take on a black face Bassman
This one is very similar to a Marshall 1987, which was derived from a 1959 Fender Bassman. The earlier ones (Model 001) were more like a JTM45 in that the cathodes were tied together on Valve 1. The Fender Blackface Bassman was a totally different animal.Sovtek MIG 50-007.gif

Sure.

Finally got to know it & JHS had a great video comparing to new EHX version..
Being the wide circuit player naturally. I re - set me pea brain & made the amp nuetral & it has become the pest pedal ami i ever played. The jensens being 93 play a huge part in getting the fat lead tone seeking at fairly reasonable volume.

If this had a tube rec also like my Black flag clone did man this amp would be outta this world, Like the amp a lot & looking forward to spring in the band room to open it up & see what the natural circuit does at volume. I was touching on but will wait .

Sure.
Thanks man. Question, i favor trainwreck 3 style PPIMV, any chance that can work decent in this circuit?

They originally misspelled "Presence" and fixed it by putting a "C" in there, but it was a little smaller than the other letters.

The can cap with the insulation on it has high voltage on the can. Something to remember when you go to service this amp.

They isolated the input jacks from the chassis using pipe thread tape on mine.

The pots are low quality.
