NAD, Marshall Origin 20.

Some of y'all might think I'm crazy, but the Ceriatone is officially and indefinitely on hold. I bought a second Origin20 yesterday, 1751158767770.gif. I wanted a new unmolested one with the footswitch and all. I was thinking I'll just return the used one I have, I'm still inside the 45 day window, but now I think I want to keep both of them. :ROFLMAO: I bought this amp just to have something to hold me over, but it's been a huge surprise and has completely killed my GAS for a high gain amp. I always thought I needed a high gain amp to get what I want, but this little beast has proved me wrong. It does it all and does it so well, I don't see why I need to look any further. I might try some Headfirst mods on the used one I have now and keep the new one clean, nothing too crazy, but some of those mods sound pretty good.

Alright…I’ve finished the fit of laughter that this brought on…
So, the Origin 20 does tick the boxes for you, with the exception of having “over the top” levels of gain on tap. The right power tubes etc…it seems to make sense for you, and that’s fantastic. I hope it sticks.
Congratulations sir!!!!
Can’t wait to see what comes next!

I was so confused, I think I still am but whatever you like Steve.
Of course it might inspire me to look in to the origin 20.

I think the headfirst mods are a joke.
Besides which there is no documentation to repair the modified amp when it breaks.

A cleaner amp like the origin will probably work better with FX pedals.
Particularly distortion pedals.

The original origin 50 is 30 watts.
I don't know what the 20 measures.
But what we have found is that the wattage rating of these amps is rather inaccurate.

^^^ This ^^^
These amps seem to love dirt pedals (imao).
I run mine clean and juice the front end with a variety of fuzz, OD & distortion pedals.
EQ, chorus and reverb in the loop as per my usual set-up.
No end to the tones available.
Two of them in stereo is amazing. :yesway:

I knew you'd be laughing at me. :ROFLMAO:

Yes, the Origin ticks all the boxes and has taught me that I don't need the "over the top" gain levels, I just needed the right circuit. I don't even have it dimed, I have the MV set at about 1 o'clock and the gain set at 3 o'clock. I can go from clean (with the guitar volume rolled down) to nice rock breakup (roll the guitar volume up) to hard rock by kicking on an OD and/or a boost and then I still have the amp boost to take it further into the old school metal territory if needed. This is all with power amp distortion, not just pre-amp like I've always had to do, it's so much more natural sounding and something I've never had before and apparently. what I've been chasing all along.

It just amazes me that this amp is what I've been looking for all along.

You would have had to be following my threads. In a nut shell...I bought a Ceriatone king kong used, I liked it, but don't like EL34s and don't need a 50 watt amp, so I've been talking to Nik (the Ceriatone guy) about a new 20 watt build of basically channel 2 of the king king using 6550 power tubes. I was going to sell the king kong to pay for the new one so I bought an Origin 20 (because it was cheap enough and I was curious about it) to hold me over while I waited for my new Ceriatone amp to be built in 6 to 8 weeks. The Origin surprised me and has turned out to be the best amp I've ever bought that does everything I need it to do and more. So now I'm putting off the Ceriatone because I don't need it after all.

Does that help?

Yeah, after thinking about it more, I think I'm just going to return the used one after my new one gets here and use the money for other things. I don't need 2 of the same amp and I don't really want to open that can of worms...not really.

That would make more sense if I had more space to set them up. As it is I really don't have room. I have my Harvard clone (in a combo) that loves fuzz pedals and I can do the same thing with that if I get the urge. Maybe in the future, but it's not practical right now and I could use the money. I need several things that I've been putting off. If I keep both amps I won't have any money to play with.

Any 2 amp would work. :yesway:
My O20's are my only stereo pair that are the same amps, but I have them set up differently (tubes, speakers, loop pedals).
The other pairs are similar, but not the same amps.
I love running stereo amps - surprised more people don't.

Yes, I did follow along a bit but you lost me when the new amp was the Origin 20, I thought you were having one built. Now it makes sense. lol

Back when I had more space I used to run my Lil' Devil (high gain) and my Harvard (with fuzz) at the same time. The sound was massive so I know what you mean. :yesway:

Oh I see. Yeah, I just wanted to get a new one with the foot switch and warranty all. The face plate on my used one is all smudged and discolored around the knobs and I can't clean it off, it's been driving me crazy. For the difference in cost it's worth it to me to have one that I know the whole history on and any flaws will be my own doing. I'm silly that way.
