So I ordered that VOX MV50 Clean and it arrived today. Problem is I almost stepped on it when I walked outside to pick it up...Yes it's that small! Thing is about the size of two packs of smokes...5x4x2

I won't be able to use it until after work, but here are a couple quick pics. I sat it between a hard drive and a roll of packing tape to give an idea of the size...

Lilliputians made that! Very cool!

WOW---- poop man --- NOW I am getting AMP gas again........I MUST know how it sounds --- in relation to a REAL VOX TUBE AMP---because if it sounds as good as my AC4 did ..............I am going to be ordering some poop I dont need.........thanks Sp8ctre!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I MUST know how it sounds --- in relation to a REAL VOX TUBE AMP---

That's the bizarre thing...it IS a tube amp!

It just uses the Korg Nutube - a miniaturized, surface-mount vacuum tube.

This is really cool.

C'mon, Sp8ctre...what's taking so long on that review!

Very quick test hooked up iin 4 ohm 50 watt mode to my 4x12 cabinet...IT'S LOUD! No time to play with setting or evaluate sound quality now...

Well, when I test tonight you'll be happy to know I have a REAL VOX Tube Amp to compare to...

[QUOTE="smitty_p, post: 36053, member: 30" it IS a tube amp!![/QUOTE]
Hybrid. They make use of the (one) twin triode's non linearity to generate harmonic content (like cold clippers???). Kinda clever really & if it sounds good, why not. Cheers

Yeah, you're right. The Nutube is in the preamp and the power section is SS. But, I'm really, really interested in the Nutube thing.

30 minutes of testing and I'm sold! I'm keeping it.

By itself into my 4x12 that has Celestion Vintage 30 speakers here are some observations;

With the EQ switch on the back in the Flat position it has a little too much treble bite, what I call a sharp tone.
This can be dialed out to a point with the treble and bass controls on the unit. Not a fan of this position
on first test, but I mean it's only been 30 minutes...

With the EQ switch in the Deep position you get a hell of a lot more range and a more natural sound.
Crank the Treble and Bass controls up all the way and you get a nice distortion. This position gives a
much fuller rounded out sound range.

Now the thing I was most curious about through the Kemper...it sounds unbelievably good!
Set to Flat on the back with the Treble and Bass at fairly low (9oclock) and it makes the 4x12
sound close to what I get with a powered FRFR speaker

I get plenty of distortion from this "Clean" unit for my needs so I'm glad I went with it.

I need MUCH more time to goof around, but I'm not disappointed.

If anyone wants a specific set up of the switches let me know...I'll be playing this for the rest
of the week and further evaluating. If I can figure out why my recording set up is clipping the
hell out of everything I may attempt some basic stuff...

I'm really, really interested in the Nutube thing.
The nutube is a 6P1 digital display VFDC__Data_Users_DefApps_AppData_INTERNETEXPLORER_Temp_Saved Images_1111_UCC5GoB.jpg
The VFD is used after the main pre amp input stage as, being a triode (actually twin triode) it generates more 2nd harmonics than IC/SS technology. Electronics experimenters, who as you know have always made technological advances have been using these in audio for a while & there are kits for headphone amplifiers & hybrid amps available. The only thing I don't like about this Vox amp is that its designed to be disposable. No schematics or service notes are to be made available because of this. But, I imagine someone will reverse engineer it. Cheers

awh you SUCK! now I want one.....I was sooooo hoping you HATED IT an it SUCKED....but NOOOOO--- now I intercourse want one.........
