Mystery Tone:

It’s an Ovation Celebrity acoustic being played through a First Act solid-state amp. Then, it is being re-amped through a Marshall JCM800. The speaker is a 6x9 car speaker (Kraco, if I’m not mistaken).

The speaker is being mic’ed with a Shure Beta 58 and is run to an Allen-Heath soundboard, then to a Rane ME-15B EQ. Finally, the output is being sent to a PreSonus AudioBox USB audio-to-usb bridge where it is being recorded with Audacity on an HP computer running Windows 7, Service Pack 2.

I can’t be quite sure, but I think I detect a Logitech keyboard and mouse and an Acer monitor.

Am I close?! :p

Damn, that was good!

Well, anyways, the mystery tone, isn't much of a mystery at all, except when you consider is that what you are listening too is a pair of Gibson humbuckers running at the same time...

Here's the equipment used to create "Mystery Tone." This is my usual tone on our latest recordings:

2016 Gibson SG

Bridge Pickup - Gibson 57 Classic + Factory Defect 180° Magnet Flip
Neck Pickup - Gibson Burstbucker pro - Untouched
500kΩ Volume & Tone Pots
.033uf Capacitor on Bridge - .015uf capacitor on neck
Pickup Selector - Middle Position
Volume Controls - Full Up
Tone Controls - Both at '5'

Amplifier Settings as shown in photo

These are the settings I been using for recording. I dial in a similar tone on my Line-6. The only difference is, the Line 6 sounds MUCH bigger, but tonally, the guitar sounds identical through both rigs and even leaves the same signature on a spectrogram...

Look CLOSE at the image of the SG for some tonal clues...

Would you have ever guessed running BOTH pickups SIMULTANEOUSLY could produce such a sound??? Nothing like being out-of-phase!!!!
