My Neck-Through-Body SG Finish Thread:

I totally understand that it depends on what you want from your tone control. In mods I’ve done over the years, I’ve experimented quite a bit. I generally prefer .015 for humbuckers. I have used .033 caps as well. In fact, one guitar I had came stock with those until I changed them. I didn’t care for those.

But, if you find that .018 is better for your needs than .022, then understand that using a .22 capacitor is TEN TIMES the value of a .022 capacitor.

That was the point of my post…to indicate that a .22 is of pretty much no value as a tone cap in a normal guitar tone circuit.

I totally didn't see the absence of the zero the first time i looked at them.

If i roll the tone to zero, and the guitar sounds like a wet conforter was thrown over the amp (which is common with a .022uf) then i go smaller in terms of rating..

The stain is drying well. I left the SG in the sun yesterday and little oil spots began appearing all over the body as the oil began cooking out.

Now, i keep thinking about the time required for the shellac to dry before coating with NC Lacquer, and then i think, why not just hot it with boiled linseed oil and leave it like that????

Yeah. I agree. That's much of the reason I end up using .015 for most of my humbucker applications. I get more useful range without muddying up.

Looking good. Body, neck, & headstock are all going to have the same finish?

Headstock has a wood veneer, bit it looked more gray than black, so I sprayed it black lacquer.

I'm still trying to figure out the finish in my head...
