I got this through Sweetwater, my long time sales guy Nich Magnani (
nich_magnani@sweetwater.com 800-222-4700 ext 1727 <----Shameless plug.) told me these we coming in quite a while ago, this is from the first batch that came in. He was kind enough to go and hand pick it, send me pictures and sound bytes. He also gave me a helluva price on it. I went back and forth comparing this one and a custom shop, here's what I discovered.
1. The custom uses hide glue, mine doesn't.
2. The electronics are identical. Handwired with Orange Drop Capacitors
3. The nut and the end width's are the same: 1.695 to 2.26
4. Fretboard radius is the same 12"
5. Fret's are the same. Medium Jumbo
6. Pickups the same.
7. Both use Gloss Nitrocellulose Lacquer
Neck size. Custom "Chunky C." Mine: 50's Style
The only real difference was the case, the custom uses a replica Clifton "Cali Girl" and mine was the standard ugly brown with the soft handle. Oh yeah, the price, Custom shop: $3799.00 Mine, Sweetwater: $1599.00 and I paid less than that and it came Plek'd and in tune!
