My First Collective Soul Concert

I have to admit, today did not go as planned in any way shape of form. I had to shoe horn in a bunch of stuff and still keep calm enough not to get stressed and blood pressure up. Ya see, I operate best when I am not under any time line, deadline, hafta be somewhere at a predetermined time etc.

Therefore, I did the best I could tasks wise before having to be ready at my blind buddy's apartment to catch a cab ride to the 7:30 Tonic/Our Lady Peace/ Collective Soul concert.
Well, I decided not to squeeze in a 2 hour round trip to Baltimore to do 2 hours work before meeting my friend for the show. We got the cab, took a short ride and were in the parking lot by 7:30. He had won 2 free tickets and we had good seats in the middle about 3 sections ( maybe 200 feet) back.
Well, since he is blind, it does not matter if the audience stands in front of our line of sight. For Tonic everyone sat. For Our Lady, they stood and we stayed seated. Then about 10 minutes into the stage setup for Collective Soul, a guy comes in front of me and asks if we would like to go sit up in the front row. He hands me his 2 tickets and said he had to go so we could follow him to the seats. He wasn't kidding, we got to sit right in front of the Rhythm guitarist Dean Roland. No more worries about people standing in front of us and we even got padded chairs instead of hard stadium seats.

I reallllllllllllllllllllllllllllly was enjoying the whole set. Then maybe about 3 songs from the end, Dean reaches off the stage and hands me his guitar pick. This really was a trip, because I could tell he was generally pretty cautious not to drop any and was not throwing them to the crowd willy nilly. He dropped one once and had to go back to his amp to get another. Anyway, before this, I really was digging his good rhythm work. The whole band was super tight and sounded great.
Needless to say, I sure had a 10 for concert experience. SOOOO cool to finally see them. Thanks alot Dean and Collective Soul and the kind hearted stranger who gave us the great seats.

I will post pics ASAP, woo hoo.

Dang, I am still so juiced from last night's show.

I can still remember them being the band playing some of the first Drop tuning songs I'd ever heard way back when.

Great stuff Chilli, Ive always liked Collective Soul.Shine is my favorite song of theres to. Congrats on the front row seats.

Say Chilli you think that lead singers guitar is tuned to drop D to so he can get that big 6 string D chord ???? Now you got me strumming that song.:)

That would blow ones mind for someone to just offer up there front row seats..

That is for sure, and it was even crazier when Dean reached out to hand me his pick. I imagine they know audiences love that kind of thing. I was really diggin his chops and maybe he could tell. I certainly did not give off a begging type vibe or anything either.
It was kind of surreal the whole experience once that guy asked us if we wanted to move up.

OK Frank,,,,,,,,,,,,,, you wanna talk JButcher. Way back around 1983 I was in my freshman year of college. My 3 buddies and I had a friend from Maryland who worked at the Syracuse Carrier Dome while he went to that school. He got us 5 tix for a Saturday RUSH concert. So the 4 of us drove up to see our buddy Friday night and then hung out Saturday skateboarding and hanging out near the dome listening to sound check. As we skated this black guy came up to us and asked to try out our skateboards.

Of course we said sure thing and when we had enough skating, we grabbed lunch or something.
Later that night at the show, the opening act came out. We then said HOLY SH.. " that was John Butcher" who was riding our skateboards with us.

This concert gall was imploded back in the early 2000's and I miss it terribly. Saw all the good bands there from 79-86ish.

One Show before I was old enough,

As an 18 yr old kid, I worked for a landscaper and met the owner of the demo company Mr. Loizeaux when we did some landscaping at his house.

Although I saw almost all my favorite bands I could get tix for here, I only missed Led Zep, Stones, Styx and Nugent. It took until I was 18 in 1982 to see The Who ( I am posting a concert they did there from when I was 12) way too young to go to a concert on my own, but lucky enough to see 2 back to back shows in 1982 with the 2nd show being 8th row right in front of Entwhistle.

Enjoy this recording from my beloved Cap Centre
