My Fender American Professional Stratocaster

I was having some tuning issues with my 2018 Fender USA Start recently and last night member Leedspool convinced me that the nut is cut too high on the high e side. Guess I am looking to buy some nut slotting files now!

I have these and they are good. 10-46
But if your slots end up deep (the file is V shaped) and it will look like it is too wide.
I think they are cut a little wide and will try going one size down , especially for 09-42.
I think you can effectively do at least 10-46, 09-42, 11-52 with them by choosing carefully but I cant say with certainty.

I have a set of the $10 PRC ebay offerings and mine are awful, the sizes dont really match up.
Ok for utility file as needed, but not as nut file.

The individual ones that look like hacksaw blades are possibly the best, but pricey.

This is my strat. A USA Fender American Professional Stratocaster. It has all the goodies from the factory (tim shaw designed pickups, bone nut, custom shop influenced neck, and some other good things. This is my favorite Fender that I own.

Very nice. I've had a touch of Strat GAS lately, and this is the model I have been considering, although in black with rosewood.

I have an American Professional as well and mine is also Olympic White. I can tell you it's one fine instrument!

I just dropped a set of TV Jones Starwood Pickups in mine and I love them!

You yanked the Shaws? Haha, the pickups are 90% of the reason I am interested in this model: I'm looking at the HSS version with a Shawbucker and two Shaw singles. The one I played at the local Sam Ash was damned impressive but I didn't get much time with it.

I bought a loaded hardware body minus electronics and added my own neck and electronics.

It's a killer guitar and the hotter bridge pickup smokes!

I have the same Hosco 10~46 files as well as oxy/acetylene tip files as shown by Sysco. The Hosco files are great for cutting &/or lowering, as well as widening & shaping the nut slots. The torch tip files have much finer cutting teeth so are good for cleaning up the slots after cutting/shaping with the nut files. The only thing with the torch tip cleaning files is they don't go small enough for the B & high E slots, at least the ones I have don't. Cheers
