And don’t get me started on hoarding... It is a prime example of egoistical behavior devoid of any solidarity towards fellow human beings. There is no shortage of food (or toilet paper), UNLESS PEOPLE START HOARDING. Then many of people will not be able to get what they need because of all the bozos out there.
Fundamentally, I agree.
I think this is a little different in its motivation, though. I think there are two possible motivators:
One, I think people are worried that supply may eventually be affected, if those businesses close down or suffer a decrease in supply capacity.
Two, I think people are preparing for the possibility of becoming infected themselves. In this case, they’ll essentially be on lockdown and have to self-quarantine for a couple of weeks. It would be a real drag to run out of toilet paper and not be able to get more!
Honestly, I have thought about this second point because the first confirmed case in my town here was announced yesterday. The person is being responsible and self-quarantining, which is good. But, don’t think this hasn’t made me think about running out and getting a few extra packages of toilet paper, just in case I get infected!
