My Buddy's LP. See if anyone can tell me what it is.

It looks like an Ibanez bridge and tailpiece from an earlier Artist model...or an Ibanez "lawsuit" Les Paul.
The body and book matched top does not look right for a Gibson. There's something odd about it. The shape of the body looks out of proportion.
But there is not enough detailed pictures to really see the rest of the construction. Therefore mysterious in many ways.
I don't know if I can believe it's really a Gibson, at least not from the photos posted. I think it could be a forgery.

From the way the top is book matched, and the shape of the body, I would guess an Ibanez lawsuit Les Paul, that has been dressed up to look like a Gibson.

The bridge looks like an older Rickenbacker bridge. Love the thumbwheels for the tail piece. Probably came off of some old piece of machinery with a 3/8-24 thread. It looks interesting with no body binding. Is it really a PRS top on that?

Love my two Norlins. '85 (L) and '82 (R). Affordable for a kid with a crappy job in a machine shop when I bought them. Couldn't afford them now. Great guitars, and they're going nowhere.

Yup you're right Rickenbacker...

Mark why would you say Norlin era suck. The non Valute Norlin's are now valuable
that's how I judge guitars is resale price.
Example I own a 1972 Les Paul Custom LE 1954 RI paid $450.00 new
1969 Gibson Deluxe Les Paul repaired two guitar amps $300.00 in parts
both guitars play well and at $750.00 total price.

67,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I love Norlins. I said some people ( cork sniffers) might say Norlin's suck.

My First LP was a 79 Std with T Tops.

Yes John it is a Real PRS cap on this LP.

My other particulars I was told by the owner is he has the pups bolted directly to the wood. No Floating. SO this LP really sings. My thoughts are, he got the heights set to his liking, then calculated the amount of wood shimming to fit under each pup and glued them in, and then secured each pup and rings as they sit.

Nope AMP Mad, No Forgery. We live just up the road from PRS. This guitar is a real 1973 Gib that Ron had a PRS Maple cap put on it years ago. He now lives in the Tampa area. Believe me, this guitar has rocked Baltimore to FLA and likely points north and some west since it was built in '73.

A little digressing from the guitar itself.

When I saw the maple cap, I knew it wasn't Gibson.
I know Paul too. He made my L6-S into a double cutaway. But that was years before he started mass production of guitars.
(I taught Paul the locking string method, which he had never seen before.)
Far as the rest, it's impossible to tell just from the pictures here if it's real or not.

OK Fellas I mentioned to my buddy that we were chatting up his '73 LP Std. I will add his replies as they come.
He did say the guitar came to him with the bridge and TP as is, and the electronics are Master Volume, 2 tones and switch in the other control hole.

If you guys look hard, you will see no height adj screws in the mounting rings.

I also did some googling about the bridge as one of Ron's friends posted a pic of his that he said he thinks his was a 70's Bad Ass on his 69 LP.

Not much came up about Bad Asses but some mention of a Yamaha with a similar bridge and another pic post of a LP with one on MLP. Some mention of Schaller was brought up in the MLP thread.
