My attempt at a challenge on another forum

This my attempt at a challenge post on another forum. This was very challenging. You are supposed to do it in one take, play rhythm over the singer, then lead, then more rhythm. I lost my way a few times. I did it in one take but that after playing over it a few times over a couple of days.

Here is a link to it. If it’s not ok to post links to other forums please delete this post.

Wish I had time and was setup to record this. About 20 years ago I was taking lessons from a friend of a friend who was a great guitar player, just had that natural talent. After a few months of lessons he goes “you need to learn some funk”. So he has me work on this for a few weeks with the signature riff and the chorus chords. I still use it for finger warm up to this day. And for Johnny Goo, this is the song that got me to nail the B7 chord in the lower register for the turn around. Slides and hammer ons and that funky rhythm. :dood:

And nice job Kerry !

I wish I had more time, I think those challenges are a direct route to improvements and getting better. You are challenged with new material, you record and listen, and get feedback and encouragement.
I like that they force me to get out of my comfort zone and play genres that I wouldn't otherwise play. It is a very welcoming group that participate in the challenges. What I learn from participating definitely improves my playing. I really enjoy listening to how others approach the same material. There are some very good players that participate.

Very well done KB.
I would be so far out of my comfy spot trying this, but what you say is very important !!
Cheers
