I am sure I had seen somewhere here one of the guys using a stand at their performance. Right now I do small gigs on my own. I have 80 songs in my repertoire right now, I play seventy of them, I take my binders with me and my stand. Many of the songs I don't have memorized word for word, and I don't know all the chord configurations off the top of my head for all songs, so I have to look down occasionally. I'm sure I am not the only guy out there that does this. Would like to hear from those who do the same.
 
If I need to use music, I use my laptop computer on a computer stand. That way I can flip pages with just a quick tap of the Page Up or Page Down key on the keyboard. Also, you can buy USB foot switches that allow you to flip pages, too.

But, I don't put it in front of me. I don't like that sense of an obstruction or barrier in front of me. I place it to the side and try to memorize most of it while practicing, and only quickly refer to it while actually playing.

My music stand holds cheat sheets, picks, my slide of the moment, maybe my eBow, and sometimes a capo. Oh yeah, and once in a while an iPad....but I prefer the iPad there for recording, over reading lyrics or music.

It can be seen near upper center in this random pic. I like mine a little off center. I also have come to really like the heavy duty, solid metal one I picked up a few years ago, over my previous wiry ones.

Nice set up you have there Don. I like your stand and agree with the heavy duty stand . I have one very similar. When I first started out I bought the one that looks like an accordion what a mistake that was anything you put on it would fall off, plus it was so flimsy you could blow on it would fall over.

The flimsies get me down.
I didn’t have much need when we played out originals...I wrote my own stuff, so I know it pretty well.
Now that we do a lot of cover songs...I need cheat sheets until I’ve committed new material.
Plus, as I said before, I need a place for my stuff.... I don’t play a lot of slide, but I do when we play Floyd's Breathe Reprise. I don’t use the eBow a lot, but it’s handy for when I do....
I almost never drop my picks, but it’s nice to have spares.
Heck, I should install a beverage holder....
 
I can play anything by AC/DC, Def Leppard, Eagles, or Scorpions (and a few others like .38 Special, Tesla, Warrant, etc.) without ever looking at a sheet - 100% from memory.

On different stuff that I am not familiar with, I use a stand and I will refer to it as much as I need too...
 
I'm friendly with a bloke who's happy to do one man shows. He plays acoustic and has a GREAT "country" style singing voice. When he takes a lead guitarist to a gig there is an understanding ... know the material or don't turn up! Hard and fast rule, no music stands or paper on stage.
My repertoire can be counted on one hand, don't think I'd cut it with him :-)

I met a guy that had 2 refrigerators at his house. 1 was his food that you had to stay out of. The other had a tap on the front, a keg inside and a small dixie cup dispenser on the side. There was also a sign saying 25 cents per glass with a collection can underneath the sign. You could bring your own 72 ounce mug, the price was still the same. Jim didn't want to wash dirty glasses. I was at his home, drinking from this keg a few times around 1972. Jim Pewsey had been playing keyboards with very popular local party band from Pasadena called Mammoth. The band went through changes as bands often do and Jim was no longer part of Mammoth. The band changed their name, acquired a new front man wearing spandex and went on to make history. Thank you eSGEe for bringing back my memories of a kegerator!

I do the same with the page savers. I'll stick a post it in depending how I'll play it. In this case it's, use the 12 string, bridge pick up, and use the chorus pedal.
