Mr. Moon

Hi all,

I thought it was high time to hear what drummers used to sound like. Here's Keith playing Won't get Fooled Again. The drum track has been isolated.

Take no notice of the pictures - they don't appear to have anything to do with what we are hearing. But who cares - it's Keith Moon

Some good drummers back then didnt have massive drug and alcohol addictions, destroy their gear and murder their bodyguard .....oh wait that was vehicular homicide-- sorry Don--not a fan of Mr. Moon.

No offense to you personally DonP......my malice is totally directed at the deceased MR. Moon......just wanted to be unanimously clear on that.

None of which changes the fact that he was an amazing drummer with an instantly recognizable sound.
If drummers had a list of "one note guys" like guitar players do, Keith Moon would be in the top five.

Exactly. Technically he wasn't really a proper drummer, but he brought a fire to the Who like nobody else could. Barely ever repeated a pattern but behind all the pyrotechnics there was a rock solid beat that Entwhistle and Townshend could perform their own magic against.

I like the irony in the fact that you like him for his deviation from the science of a mathematically measured beat. Bravo for your diversity of vantage points.

I'm an anarchist at heart. I think it is a requirement for a scientist.

This makes perfect sense to me.
You have to be able to accept findings that are contrary to the current reality.

A thousand years ago the finest scientific minds on the planet believed said planet
was flat and rested on the backs of 4 elephants standing on a giant turtle that was
swimming around in a vest cosmic sea.

th

Not so much anymore.

Exactly. And then came the Renaissance and Gallileo. He challenged the Platonic view of the universe (as it was then) and said that the Sun was at the centre, not the earth. Of course the church punished him for heresy. No longer of course. Church dogma has always been whatever it can no longer condemn as heresy. And now that include evolution.
