Mom Wants To Trade - Long, Image Heavy Post:

At one time, in 2017, I had quite a few genuine Gibson's. I became frustrated with their quality control issues and got rid of all of them. The black LPC Replica I made for my Mom is the only Les Paul style guitar I own. It is used as a studio mule or a loaner for students.

Shown here - left to right - is my 2016 Les Paul 50's Tribute, my garage-built Von Herndon Doubleneck, my 2016 SG and 2017 Les Paul Studio in the foreground. Not shown was my 2017 Gibson Les Paul 50's Tribute Gold Top.

Rob's S-G.jpg

I gave the SG to @eSGEe because he had fond memories of one he used to own and the tuning instability in direct sunlight (playing live and for hire) made me absolutely hate it.

Now, I have to say that I played these guitars all day in my studio job, them wailed on them 5 nights a week for a very long time and there is no doubt that those conditions are tough on any guitar.

I've worn grooves in my bridge pickups from pick contact and broken 4-5 picks a night.

It was a tough life for a guitar to work for me...and it was hard on the fingers too...

But, it paid the bills and kept me steadily employed...

In the end, the aggravation became too great a distraction for me and I just dumped all my guitars one day and went back to Schecter, which had been the best and most trouble-free guitar I have ever used.

I started playing Schecter's in 2005 when I got my first brand new C1 Hellraiser. Absolutely flawless guitar that never needed anything but to be played.

I went back with the C1 Hellraiser FR in stunning Trans-Purple Burst:

Moving back to Schecter was the best move I ever made. Flawless tuning, flawless finish, flawless setup and incredibly quiet both live and in the studio, the C1 Hellraiser FR is my main and most trusted guitar. It stays in tune even outdoors in direct sunlight, which is important for me.

My #2 guitar is a Jackson San Dimas (Adrian Smith) given to me by @eSGEe

The black LPC that I made for my Mom is still used on a regular basis and it is one of my favorites....

Your Mom has a Les Paul and she wants to trade for 58 Gold Top?
She wants the Von Herndon.
What does she play? Is she into metal?

Mom, a former backup vocalist for Buck Owen's and Merle Haggard - and step daughter of Bob Wills - is a die hard country western/country gospel player. She is still very active in music to this day!!!

I played bass and guitar in her band from the time I was 12 until about the age of 19. Although I did play in local metal bands during this time - and metal has always been my thing - I helped to support Mom whenever possible.

This video was shot in her private studio before it was completed, around 1988 we think. The videographer and the guitar player have both since passed on.

I must be dreaming this. Robert Herndon, UN-masked?
My eyes see it, but my THC saturated brain does not comprehend it.

Iv's seen him before on a Blue Oyster Cult Album Cover.
Somebody pinch me.
