Modulation pedal suggestions...

I only use the looper to lay down chords to practice scales or lead melodies over

My looper (Jamman Solo XT) has the feature of an SD card on which you can store samples, so it can be useful live if you want to be in a grindcore or powerviolence band with the obscure movie samples between songs
I have convinced myself that I need one lol to do just as you said about lead phrases and such, would be a useful tool in that regard.

If you just wanted to have a play with some effects, a cheap starter option might be something like a Behringer FX600.
A Behringer pedal is a cheap piece of plastic (the guy at JHS likes 'em!), but you don't sound like you are planning to tour your guitar setup.
No Uni-Vibe onboard (which you seem to be sold on already), but you can try out Flanger, Chorus, Phaser, Delay, Tremolo and Pitch Shifter one at a time for very little outlay.
Then buy a decent version of the ones you like, and flog on the FX600.

don't use much other than OD's but the Catalinbread Belle Epoch thing is fun. Can be dialed in to just more of very precisely.or nice real filling atmosphere & the circuit can be set tom have a preamp type boost..this into a fender is huge. You can set the after trails timing

Does anyone make an analog delay? I’ve tried digital and we just don’t mesh. Lol. At any rate, I would like to keep my effects to a minimum. Too many toys and my playing, which is nominal at best goes out the window!

MXR Carbon Copy & Carbon Copy Bright are both analog delays. I have both & like them, though I only use delay sparingly when I do use it (usually for leads). They both feature a chorus effect too (internal trimpot adjustments & a small external push button type on/off switch).
I have a Boss DD3 digital delay but it only occasionally gets used at home. I probably should sell it. Cheers

Im with you Fretless man -- I own 5 pedals ---- 1.......the Electro Harmonix HOLY GRAIL reverb is the only one "in" my signal chain and that is only used on gutiar amps witout reverb....
bass.....cord...amp--- BOOM baby---

Right now all I own pedal-wise is a fulltone ocd, courtesy of my best bud Jim Robinson. It is easily the finest overdrive I’ve ever had (or used)! Now I need a couple of playmates for it to hang out with...
I've not tried an actual OCD, but did build the Fred Briggs (mod/design) Super OCD, which is an enhancement of the original OCD circuit featuring tone controls borrowed from the Paul Cochrane "Timmy" overdrive, a "saturation" control that adjusts the headroom of the clipping circuit (FET clippers) & clean boost control. It is a very good & broadly adjustable overdrive pedal that has remained on my board since built (probably 4+ yrs).
Sorry for the de-rail guys. Cheers

My best mate as a kid, his dad had one (club singer). They were a hoot to play around with. That is where the pitch shift (tape speed) emulation comes from in digital Tape Echo sims.
As for the tape, you have to splice in your own from an old reel-to-reel tape when it wears out (often I should think).

The head on the far left is the record head. The other 4 play heads give varying delay time lengths.
I think later or more sophisticated ones had variable tape speed.
The one at my LGS may have been modded with a 5th play head (brown) for longer delay.

I found this vid to be pretty good.
I traded for a TC viscous vibe a while back and found this helpful.
I dont use it a lot, but it has that well..... vibe so it works well enough for me.

Since delays are mentioned, I have the cheapy Joyo analog delay JF-33.
I dont know delay pedals well; for my simple needs this one sounds fine.
Some times I get all Song Remains the Same Jimmy with it.
'Cept I dont slap the strings with a cello bow.

i have the Joyo Chorus too, that one is meh to me, colors the tone a lot and not particularly good.

I vote Uni Vibe as well.

Great Trower type tones, and in a pinch it's a phaser, chorus tremolo.

Just my opinion, your's is the only one that counts.

But you can pick up some nice tones with a vibe, really eliminates having a bunch of other modulation pedals. My opinion only!

Have fun, we need pics afterwards lol.
