Modified V Build

Body shape rooted to the template and neck mortise roughed out with a forstner bit:

Neck blank on the band saw:

Here it is ready for the router:

But then things got messy. That maple is very hard to rout. It kept grabbing and wanting to tear out. I might be able to salvage it, or maybe not, in which case I will cut another blank and try again. To be continued. . .

Looking for ideas/thoughts for a finish look. It is a mahogany slab. I will fill the pores/grain with a dark filler, probably drywall mud tinted with acrylic paint. But what finish should I do? I'm partial to 'burts but don't know about doing a burst on a dark wood. Anybody have any thoughts?

I'm looking forward to it as well. But I'm also trying to get my maple tele-style back playable and trying to finish my radius jig so I can do that. Plus, my gf is putting a lot of pressure on to curtail my shop time. Finally, real life (meaning work) is about to interfere in major way. I am hoping to rout the body cavities today but everything seems to take longer than I plan for it to so who knows.
 
How about a two-tone burst with the dark just being black around the edges?

The lighter color would be the the natural wood color.

I guess it would be sort of a tobacco burst.

Thanks. I was thinking about that but I wasnt sure. I guess I could test it out on some scrap mahony first. I think it would like nice with the natural maple neck and a rosewood (?) fingerboard.
 
If you search Google Images for "tobacco burst Flying V" there are quite a few interesting results.

Maybe they will give you some ideas?
 
Good call. Thanks, Smitty. Most of them have maple caps, but there are a couple/few rhat are all mahogany. This one looks like what I have in mind, except for the gold hardware:
