Mexi P VS USA P

Fender USA over MIM all day if you can afford it, if not MIM, if you can't afford that get a squier ;)
However, if your gigging an MIM will cost you a lot less if it gets stolen or broke somehow.
I've been called a cork sniffer because I prefer Fender USA, but I think there are as many MIM cork sniffer's as their are USA cork sniffer's - lol...

Good points!!!!

One of my former bassists owns a Mexican P, and another one owns a US Jazz. It's not the same model, but the comparison is doable.

The US one feels "tighter" and more well finished, by a frog's hair. The Chicano P holds its ground pretty well, I never noticed anything short of perfect coming out of it.

I think there's a bit less of a difference between basses than between strats.

Nice! You could get yourself an Epiphone bass, though. Lots of bang for the buck there. I don't play bass very often, but it's fun, so I do pick up the EB-0 from time to time. Costs next to nothing. Sometimes I wish I had a more high end bass, but for my limited use there's really no point.

I don't play bass much either, but I love having a couple of good basses around. I usually use them for coming up with good riffs. It's seems like you can get a bit funkier with a bass than a guitar. I have my Gibson T-Bird and a nice "lawsuit" era copy of a Rick 4001. I'd still love a decent J or P Bass one of these days.
