MESA/Boogie Mark VII

I read the press release. Randall Smith says they planned a Mark VI but then went so far beyond the test mule with the final version that they felt it deserved to get its own moniker. Sounds like marketing BS to me; seems more likely the Mk6 is actually the Petrucci or they don't want the beef with Peavey.

I've played the Petrucci and I was all I could do not to plop the card down on the counter for it. If I was still gigging it would have happened long ago. If this thing is what I think it is I may not be able to resist this time.

Doesn't seem hugely different from the Mrk V?? Some different modes and MIDI?

If what they are saying is to be belived the different modes utilize a simplified/more direct signal path and switching. There are even less tubes in the preamp than before. Should result in an even more immediate and present sound like the Petrucci has - but with more mode/switching options.

Also, I have to admit, the one mode in the Mk 5 that I don't like is, ironically, the Mk 5 (EXTREME) mode. Every other mode is a monster. Guessing they changed it up for a reason and the new one will be badass.

Extreme mode is: take out the NFB resistor, that's all it is.

Yeah, I knew it didn't have negative feedback but was never sure from which mode they were removing it, because the reponse and EQ change pretty dramatically and it becomes way too strident in the midrange. If it's taking it out of the Mk IV mode then all it did is convice me that a Mk IV needs negative feedback to sound right.

Peavey has a MK 6 you never know
SWR made "California Blonde"
Much later Mesa made "California Tweed"
Sunn made "Coliseum Amp"
Much later Mesa made "Coliseum Amp."
They tend to copy well known names, used by other manufacturers. I was going to take this up with Fender (Fender owns SWR and Sunn), because Mesa was copying Fender's trade name properties.

But I haven't yet....
Didn't want the real Sunn Coliseum Amp mixed up with the Johnny-come-lately. It kind of bothers me.

It's a copy of a Fender power amp.
The NFB gives the Fender that distinct sound.
Almost everything in a Mesa was copied from Fender and Marshall...this amp being no exception.

Sure. And Leo got his start from the RCA receiving tubes manual, and Jim got his from a Bassman. But Mesa beat them both to the punch with a lot of things that they, er, paid homage to. All good. Mesa’s sound the way I need an amp to sound and not much else does so I dig em.

I hated the IIC+ (I think?) mode on the Mrk V. So different from all the others seemed to have no high end. Almost need to use the GEQ strictly for that mode. So much tweaking if ever changing modes on Ch 2.
Thus I have a TC100 and Mrk V 35.

If there's anything I learned from working on sooooo may Boogies
it's How not to build a guitar amp.
They convinced me that PC boards are a poor choice and amps should be built on turret boards. (so amps can be serviced).

Looks like Peavey and Mesa ( Gibson ) has cut me off on parts for the Mesa franchise I had to move to a different
state and the city had to have a population of over 250,000 not worth it to me I like zero rush hour traffic
I like HAD his designs 100% original
