I'm really such a basic guy. I really shy away from a lot of knobs and also from programmable banks of digital light blinky thingys.
There are times that I glance at something like a Dr. Z and feel like, yeah, three knobs is all you need. But having so many options in the Mk 5 is amazing. Honestly, it's saved me a ton of money - want Blackface? Got it. Tweed? Its there. Marshall? You can cop it. Add in multiple iteratations of past Mesa amps and it could easily take you a week to hit on all the tones available in one box. Throw a pedalboard into the mix and the sky is the proverbial limit.
I've always said, there is definitely a learning curve with these amps. You have to commit to getting to know them and how to tweak them, but when you do they are very rewarding.
True....
I find myself evolving and my tone is changing to less and less "gain" and more of a louder, kind of mid-range edgey sound.
That's the essence of Boogies. Sure they have tons of gain, but really you don't need to use much.
It's kind if like when you hear isolated guitar tracks and realize they are using way less gain and way less bass than you thought when you heard the whole band playing.

I really understand your point and pretty much agree. But, you don’t want to short-change yourself, either.
For example, having had a two-channel amp with a shared EQ section and now, having a two-channel amp with a separate EQ section per channel, I definitely consider that a must-have for me, now. This is but one example.
You may not need something like that, but before you just dismiss something because of all the knobs and controls, it would be good to seriously consider what the controls actually do and how they may benefit you.
I haven't seen another Mesa Combo at only 44 pounds...
So what are the tonal differences in channel 2 between JP and Mk V? I found the 1C mode on Mk V ro be very dull sounding, certainly a complete change of EQ when using that mode. I also foumd Crunch mode to be lower gain than channel 2 in TC100.JP2C

Not really programmable stuff on the Mesas, as such. Each channel has a swt of controls. Like running 2 or 3 amps separately. The MkV does have extra modes etc that can make it more complex. The 35 combo has 2 channels, some modes on each channel and an EQ. Also solo boost for each channel. I think if one finds the modes they like just stick to em. The odd time I use clean I switch mode to clean otherwise back to crunch.I'm really such a basic guy. I am going to use that little amp quite a lot methinks.
Good points. I'm trying to avoid the Rabbit Holes....I'm real good at diving Headfirst into those.
mesa amps well, I -- had 2 -- a Subway blues and an F30 ...... both had issues ... both failed... (Edit: under NORMAL home hobbyist level use!!!) ---both were expensive amps both cost more to fix than most amps on the market cost to buy both are gone ....... odly my 50.00 used abused and still functional peavey bandit is STILL GOING STRONG it out lasted (Edit: being gigged by a local jazz musician for a decade a house flood -- a cabinet water logg and split.....) lost its cabinet....... slapped a new one around it .....and still going .... still sounds good .... still works
Maybe Im just a solid state kinda guy.......I still have a couple tube amps but the majority are Solid State-- and 1 is digital I guess processor/modeler .....

NO the tones are NOT identical to a $5,000.00 mesa "in the room" .....but my PLAYING isnt IDENTICAL to Carlos Santana "in the room" either... .... the gear I have is just fine for my needs....... and at the end of the day shouldnt that REALLY be what its all about ?
The tools should match the player.... otherwise.... its all mental masturbation
Yeah I son't care about Midi. The JP-2C has a midi. As far as I know its the only one that does, and its only there because Petrucci asked for it.

Personally, I would have no need for it so wouldn't use it, but when I tried out one of these amps it seriously blew my mind. Easily the best sounding of the bunch. Wish I could justify the cost of it.
Different uses too. I want a loud amp banging away behind me with a drum kick kicking. I wouldn't bother if I was just at home recording for fun.FOR the RECORD (those are coming back ya know?!?!) -- the Ampero sits on my desk.... it is the one I use almost daily -- and TO BE TOTAL HONEST -- it DOES sound VERY DAMN CLOSE to a MESA a Fender.... a Gibson... a Diezel etc etc etc .... or at least the MESA (insert amp model/brand) tone Im hearing through my computer and bose sound wave system ---the Ampero through studio monitors on the same desk top, side by side with the computer in the same room at the same volume levels...................
sounds as good as any amp recorded and posted on line ever, ...... period.... it does... argue if ya want
does it sounds like an AMPEG TUBE BASS AMP in the room through a cab???? F+++++ no -- does it sounds like a 1000 watt Bugera Bass amp ???? NO --- but who is CRANKING that in a 12x14 home office anyway? ........... no one with functional hearing thats who .......
hey guys -- been away bit-- had a few hours to dick about so -- here I am dicking in your about ---- Ill be gone again soon so dont take any of it to to personally![]()
