Meeting of the Mindless - Mid-Atlantic Edition

Robert, Ask Smitty. We first plugged in his Strat with no effects and straight into both high channels 1 and 2 alternately.

He sounded really good, and then I remembered to tell him, my Metal Zone and Vox Distortion Booster was plugged in if he wanted some dirt. He used the pedals off and on with various guitars from his Strat to my Epi LP, to his White LP Studio, his 73 SG,,,,,,, which sounded really good dirty and then his 2014 SG, and his Silverburst LP. Eventually adding his pedal board in and removing my 2 pedals. The rest of the day was a smattering of his guitars and then my 1990 Strat, ES135 and even my 1938 Roy Smeck Recording King Archtop and then my Sg's and Tele.

After hearing my Tele, he even queried me to say " what is it about the neck pickup in a Tele that people don't like?'
If he can concur, I felt like my Tele sounded nice and full sounding and I think I even heard some Metal like music tones as he played it. Far different than the usual Twangy stereotype Tele sound most people think about.

After saying all this, I am reminded how we didn't take pics. Smitty doesn't know it, but I had a wicked thought of considering sneaking my phone into record mode to get sound samples of him jamming on the various guitars so y'all could hear the amp and how much the guitars sounded good with Smitty's playing

I had swimming pool route to start with --- one thing I regret was not ANGLING the P90--- live and learn .......

it MIGHT ----end up in a WEIRD -- not quite neck --- not quite MIDDLE position in this beast..................

Yup. I asked that exact question about the neck pickup in a Telecaster. It sounded sweet in Chili's amp.

After that afternoon with Chili, here is what I think about tone: The most important element in tone is the amp.

I mean, I was playing my guitars with my effects and was impressed with what I was hearing. Same player (me), same guitars (mine) same effects (mine), different amplifier. Different tone and sound.
 
BTW, that 1938 Roy Smeck is the coolest guitar I've ever touched!

And I bet you never imagined you'd see the still readable hand written bill of sale/receipt for $65 with the Dec 7 1951 purchase date for $25 down and 4- $10 payments into Feb 1952 to bring it paid in full.
 
After playing Chili's SG Classic with P-90's, I'm pretty sure I need a guitar with a P-90.

Maybe put a P-90 in the middle position on my Washburn? Maybe a dog-ear?

Yes. It was good!

That little Starcaster guitar is special, too. I has a fully-loaded pickguard that @Robert Herndon sent to him.

That guitar sounded pretty nice!

I'll also add that the amp was non-functional at one point, but due to the assistance Chili received from @DonP and @ivan H , he was able to fix it. He expressed a lot of appreciation for all the help he received from them.

Said it before but for those who may not know, I'm a late starter and therefore don't say much other than ask questions or joke around.
Smitty I think you're on the money with that comment. This week I've been playing my US Special Strat through a Blues Jnr. While getting my practice hours in I've been feeling a bit flat re the tone. My son came over yesterday when I was out and jammed a bit with his mum, later in the day I picked the guitar up and WOW it came to life. So good I had to take a photo of his settings for future reference. Tweak the amp and fix the guitar :-)
