Marshall's U.S.A. Sales

Regardless of love, if you let the retailers sell you on mark ups you become an enabler.
Just saying.

I found a DSL 40c (not what I want) at a very inexpensive price but I am just going to bide my time.

I did find a affordable JCM 900 from a private party not a retailer.

A lot of the big box stores were and are losing their shirts post plague.

I tend to be pretty old fashioned with my stuff. I don't follow the music fads...
I tend to be old fashioned too. As many of you know by my comments on vehicles I have driven, serviced and would prefer to drive till I die. If I could, I would drive only 1968-1972 Datsun 510's, 1967-69 Camaros/Z28's/Firebirds, 1968-70 Stangs, plus Fox body 5.0's, 2nd Gen1980-1983 Honda Civic Wagons and Hatchbacks, and middle to late 50's Ford and Chevy Sedans and trucks. With trucks extending into the 60's -80's and preferably stopping around 1995 Ford trucks anyhow. Just about any pre- computerized vehicle is my preference. Same goes for most musical gear. If it has PCB as the main functioning weak point, no thanks.

Truth.
I've never, ever, ever, bought a brand new vehicle. I've never even bought a used one off a lot either. There are MUCH better deals to be had elsewhere, if you know what you're after, often with just a little bit of patience. Of course, you'll have to do your due diligence to make sure you're not just buying someone else's problem vehicle, but you also can pay less than half of what the same exact vehicle with comparable mileage is selling for on a pre owned lot or whatever. Even less if you pull hard cash out. That stuff has a way of compelling people to do things that they might not otherwise do lol

If I was at all looking at new (big, like an amp) gear purchases right now, I surely wouldn't be going to the retailers either. Not right now at least.

I always buy new musical equipment as a rule. For one, its a tax write of for my work and secondly, most people beat/abuse their gear so much its ridiculous.

I bought the 1993 Marshall Valvestate Bi-Chorus 200 used and it needed a ton of work to make it serviceable. Plus, you are now flogging 28 year old circuitry during live performances.

Never again...

DSL40C is a decent amp. I had two of them, used them both live and in studio for two yesrs, and had zero problems with them.

I had one to. Just didn't have the power I was looking for. It is a nice amp.
I think it might have sold. I'll check but there is something about the lack of bang on the output.

If one is willing to pay the price, new is always good, because you really don't wanna be buying someone else's problem child.
But that's why I mentioned doing due diligence. I wouldn't buy a used vehicle without checking it out under the hood quite thoroughly, test driving, etc. I also wouldn't buy a used amp without checking it out thoroughly, and putting it through it's paces to make sure that it's all good before handing over the cash either.

Even in the best circumstances though, sometimes poop happens.

And I read somewhere even some from China as well..

Nothing wrong with it. They are trying to have an amp for all budget ranges and the Vietnam made stuff is very solid for the price. The disposable modeling junk is made in China, and who cares for what it is. Their top-line/pro-level amps are still made in England and built as well as anything out there.

All of mine, even the SS/Hybrid Mode Four, were built in the Bletchley, Milton Keynes facility. Same place they've all been made since 1967.

I have nothing against the Vietnam operation, as the Origin and modern DSL series come from there and they're fine amps. The JCM2000 DSL/TSL series however, came from Bletchley.

For a bad amp from Marshall, that would be the MA series out of Hong Kong which are super prone to failure and lots of cut corners. Very poorly executed, the tone is average at best and muddy and flubby most days. Sucked because it baited a lot of buyers being the absolute cheapest 100w valved Marshall out there but there was a reason!

Im not sure what others hail from Hong Kong, most likely the CODE modeler series. I know their drum line Natal, comes from Taiwan and Thailand

We bought our first new vehicle in 2004. It was nice to be able to buy a grand new vehicle with warranty. I am also not near smart enough to buy a used vehicle privately. Since then we hwve bought our vehicles new. Get exactly what we want.
Amps, many new some used. Same with guitars. Most lately have been new.
Depends on one's budget too.
