I am guessing that price gouging (real or fake?) here is related to a so called pandemic backlash supply chain issue. Somewhat due to fuel costs.

I have to say, if I ever buy another Marshall it will come from Europe.
I have a hard time believing people need amplifiers so bad they would pay the stupid prices.
It has to stop. So I will remain Marshalless until it changes.

A hand-wired 100 watt Marshall Re-issue is about $3,800.00

A Fender 1964 Hand Wired 12 watt Princeton - full of Chinese parts - is $2,799.00

I honestly dont think Marshall's prices are that bad.

@syscokid built a hand-wired 50 watt Marshall clone and it was close to $2,000 just in parts alone....IIRC

I’ll just keep playing the 20w Traynor I paid $250 for way back in 1974.

Nothing wrong with that.

My first "real guitar rig" (in 1982) was a Traynor YBA-1 Head into an Ampeg SVT 8x10 Cabinet, using a DOD FX-50 for Overdrive. In 1984, i added the DOD FX-90 Delay.

About 2 years i sold the pristine FX-90 to a collector for $1,400.00.
As P T Barnum said... " "

Apparently, those old DOD's are worth big bucks. I never put it on a board and it was still in the original 1984 box with sales tape.

That $250.00 dollar price tag in 1974 would be equivalent to about $1500.00 today.
I have no doubt. When Traynor did a “reissue” on the YGM3 some years back I believe it was retailing in the 1000-1200 range.

Don’t know about the reissue, but the original is built like a tank. Pete Traynor was one of those that if a little is good….. make it better….. which every time I carry that thing equates to heavier. I think the main transformer weighs as much as some current amps. :pound-hand:

The price of almost everything has increased 30% and manufacturers have been cut off from plentiful / cheap Russian tubes...
China has been locked down from a massive COVID outbreak, no doubt production has decreased.

Did the price of Marshall increase more, compared to anything else ?

To me, the Mesa's seem consistently higher priced...????

The Marshall Studio Classic (20-watt JCM-800) head has jumped up to $1,749
The Mesa Badlander 25 head is at $1,599, and the Fillmore has gone up but is at $1,699

I've seen the Marshalls go up consistently more than the other comparable brands over the last two years. At the beginning of 2021 I got a DSL-1c for $349, and they are $599 now!

The junk, 12 watt Fender - full of Chinese parts - is still fetching $2,700.00

Blessed be the uninformed.

Well to me I need stuff that is essential and you have no alternative.

Marshall amps are cool but like I said they will either come down or they can keep them. See how long those big over head shops can keep them.

I know you can build a Marshall amp for less than $1000 but transformers , tubes and other parts have gone way up. Still I have some parts and tubes.

Exactly what I am talking about. I had the opportunity to buy a studio classic for $1200 new.
DSL 100 under $700
Now even the JCM 900 4100 dual reverb is $1000 used locally.

A year ago you could buy 5150's lll all day for right at $1000. Not sure now but probably not as bad as Marshall.
