Marshall VS265 Valvestate:

Marshall solid state maps get a bad rap but everyone I've played sounds pretty good when you turn it up. They are mostly one trick ponies but for a live Marshall sound at gig levels they sound good to me.

Agreed...and for this musical project, it's perfect...

Loves me Valvestate same "location" of origin on the back as yours--- sounds like NO OTHER solid state amp (including NEWER SS Marshalls) that I have tried/played----
There WHERE 3 ---

now there is but one--- the TRUE -- one --- and it foogin RIPS!

The code was an UTTER dissapointment --- the littl MG head was "o.k." and would have been LOVELY-- but neither could rival--or surpass the VS20!

Mine was a 50 watt MG series. The effects sucked but in a band situation it cut through the mix with that awesome Marshall tone. It was reasonably light, instant on, show up and play. I don’t know why I sold it. The guy that bought it gigs regularly with it. It had pretty decent cleans as well. It was terrible at low volumes though, fizzy and shrill. Crank it up and it rocked.

Hey! I bought a MG50CRD brand new in 2002 just for my students. FANTASTIC amp!!!!!

The Valvestates are considered by more than one player to be a surprisingly good s amp. I'e only tried the AVT20 years ago that was a “descendent” of those earlier ones. I could not seem to get a good tone when trying it out, but then, I was at low volume and going for cleans. They are made to be pushed to get their optimum tone going on.

Valvestate is the gateway drug into higher gain.
I think it's the Marshall that most have had, but few wish to admit.
It's a fine amp really.
Mine is a model 8240 stereo chorus amp with a pair of Vintage 30's.

Formerly owned & played by the late Larry (Rhino)Reinhardt of Captain Beyond.

Here's Rhino on Christmas morning when he found his new amp under the tree.

It's crazy....I can plug any of my Gibson's into the DSL40C and have a very Angus-esque tone....then, with the exact same settings, plug into the VS265 and have a very Dave Mustaine tone - as if I am using different guitars and pickups.

Gonna post a video later of some of the noise anomalies with this amp. This is going to be the standard amp for the new music project's live performances and if I could quiet it down a bit, that would be great....

This tone that Doug is showcasing here is very close to where I have my current live tone adjusted...MUCH heavier than the tone on the demo recordings...

In the picture below 3 Marshalls exist-----------2 are GONE-- one with great disappointment and malice!--

the valvestate remains and is a coveted never ever sell piece of my inner sanctum of miscreants

-- it does 1 thing -- but it does it OH SO WELL--- who friggin cares!

it also compliments its Big Sister (the DSL 15c) very nicely ;)

I have them on opposite sides of the room...facing each other ---- oh I just got a GREAT stereo cable Marshall GIANT HEADPHONE concept ----

There is a tone to the BRIT ones I find ----- lacking -- in the Viet/China/Indo models--

I had 3 SOlid state (shown above) Marshalls 2 IndoChinNam-- 1 Brit--

it SLAYED them -- hands down in all quarters-- and the 1 was a "modeling amp" taughted to make all the Plexi and vintage tube amp Marshall goodness--- ":F"n thing wouldnt even turn on and off right -- pure crap-- first wouldnt sink to my phone -- complained they sent another it worked w/the phone but sounded -- well NOT WORTH THE EFFORT-- so

the Valvestate remains--- stiff upper lip and all that rot!

The Valvestate has a great Megadeth tone. It's a one-trick pony though. The DSL40C does classic rock much better and the Blackstar is even more versatile...

agreed--- 80's hairband metal-- WONDERFUL outta the Valvestate-- (which makes me wonder what REALLY was being used "back in the day" )--
my DSL makes all sorts of LOVELY tones -- from clean and dripping reverb to face melting RAWK

but-- even side by side--- in a comparo-- my SON (who knows nothing of tubes and SS and all that stuff--but does know 80's hairband metal-- he was weened on it--) picked the VALVESTATE tone over the DSL as the "just like it better" amp

I hear more "colour" in the music spectrum. The DSL40C has a more natural sound....
