I like the Marshall tubes just fine in V2 and V3. I only use 12AU7 in V1 and 5751 in V4 of my DSL40C's.

I have many new Marshall take outs from all the tube upgrades that I do for people.

For you guys who really, really dig a warm, vintage tone, but feel like the DSL40C has too much gain, you should try the 12Au7 (ECC82) in V1. I am literally able to dime the gain and still be able to use it effectively - something impossible with a ECC83.

Then, with the 12AU7 in V1 on 'Red' channel, hit that sucker with a clean boost and you won't believe your ears...

it's a very warm, rounded tone, woody I guess you could say....

Go further Robert, hit the channel no one wants to touch!
OD 2 With the settings I sent you !

I found a great video where the fellow is performing tube swaps on a DSL50, which has a very similar tone stack to the DSL40C. In this video, you can really hear the differences I am try to describe in my previous posts:

Now these are tubes

Yea you can really pick up the different tone changes in this clip!
When I do this in the garage, the changes seem more subtle!
Cheers Mitch
