Great Comparison of the Marshall Studio Classic and the Marshall Studio Vintage

I was really surprised myself, I own both the amplifiers but have not run an A/B test with the same Cab.
Will try that during the weekend.

it really cool to a/b marshalls

i have
jtm45
jtm50
jmp50

sitting on English greenback cab ready for play at all times....the progression of tone is so cool to hear...gave my post JMP circuits away to friends but kept a VM 2266 around cause it darn near gets all those 3 amps tones nailed & it not a pre amp fizz fest...

jtm50 is all things Marshall in 1 unit..the big open jtm45 combined with the plexi agression...after many years of experimentation..Black Flag has become my fav Marshall tone..it can lean all ways..with SS/Tube rec switch...hard to play anything else. Didn't realize all this untill started mic experiments...it sent me backwards in circuits to as basic as possible. I like amps where the tone knobs do nothing basically..its all in the circuit being open..then my guitars character really comes out...less is more. Those studios are cool , they should make a Mini el34 Black Flag & kt66 VM19 studio 5.jpg

I would have liked to also hear the studio vintage not channel jumpered. While I do jumper the channels depending on the guitar used & the tone I'm going for, more often than not I'm straight into the bright channel's high input (with the unused channels volume control used for flavour). There's a noticeable difference between jumpered vs not jumpered. Cheers

This post prompted a day of deep thinking & i found a way to explain my experiences. have been fortuane to own all most every marshall made

My take
JMP's then back..jtm50..jtm45..4 holers basically...they are very good if you use tube power & use your guitars volume & tone knob as an integral part of your sound...the dynamic response is the best..almost mind blowing in a way..as you turn up..things you can do with your guitar without changing a dial or stomping on a pedal..it puts the ball game in your hands more than any other amp..it exposes...

jcm 800 forward..the pre..its for diming guitar players..not worried about that fine line or edge..the pre shape in amp determines the out put a whole lot more...the dynamics arnt as present..the amp can be set more precise in a way & constant

1 Exception, the Vintage Modern..it darn near coves it all..its a basic plexi concept with an added pre amp tube in circuit if you need to go there..will use it live cause i do fender/marshall in my tone..on the g12c celestions matched cab.. can dial in plexi..800 ish--fenderish tones very easily & the kt66 seems to really have this creamy mid thing..it begs for strats..but is down right killer with hum';s

BTW the best 800 by far is the jcm900 SLX..everybody had to mod 800's. to get em where they needed in 80's. Jim countered & did it Himself..it's an insane Marshall..don't a/b it with ya 800..you will be puzzled for life. I have one if anybody wants to prove me wrong..in an honest a/b test...

That is some hard truth right there. I had a 2205 in the 80's and thought it was the shizz with my tube screamer or RAT in front. Man, the first time I played a 900 I was so bummed that my amp sounded like a turd. I know a lot of people got their undies in a twist over the 900's because they had diode clipping, but man what a stupid thing to bitch about - the amps sounded glorious, and all those bitching bitchers were putting dirt boxes in front of their amps anyway.

I had a buddy that played a couple of 2555's back in the day, and those things also had real high-gain, crushing, tone also.
