I have a weird urge to start looking for one of the following:
  • 4010 (JCM 800 50W 1x12")
  • 4104 (JCM 800 50W 2x12")
  • 4210 (JCM 800 50W 1x12", split channel)
  • 4212 (JCM 800 50W 2x12", split channel)
  • 2554 (25/50 Silver Jubilee 1x12")

I think the non-split channel ones are considered the "best" but they're maybe not as versatile?

Are there any others that are similar (possibly even from other manufacturers...) that I should be on the look out for? The most important criteria: knobs in front, tube sockets not on PCB.

Anyone know how well the split channel models do lower-gain bluesy stuff? They do seem to have better price to weight ratio than the non-split-channel ones.

Well, the older generation DSL40C looks sort of semi-alright too construction wise, the DSL40CR looks a bit iffy although it's not the worst pcb by far. . Those also seem more versatile as far as sounds go compared to JCM.

However the price difference between a used 40C and a B-Stock 40CR ain't that much. Maybe I could live with the PCB if it comes with a 3-year warranty and a better speaker...

now HERE is a MARSHALL COMBO

There might be a DSL40CR coming my way... Will report back later. Figured I can get two of them for the price of a decent vintage one so maybe it's not so bad..

The 40 CR should be quite versatile, sound great amd, unless you change power tubes constamtly, the socket thing really shouldn't be a big issue. Also isn't a 35 year old amp.
I found the split channel combos to be so bright as to be very ice picky compared to the 4010.
Hard to come by a 6101. Great little combo!!

These are superb!! I have the THR10x high gain version. Cool wide stereo sound amd sounds surprisingly good from headphone out to recorder. I almost wish it had a speaker out and footswitch for the memory settings.

DSL 40CR is very problematic.
4010 is the one you want however becoming harder to get one.

Although DSL has a good sound, also has a lot of technical issues and a voodoo curse.
