Marshall 8040 Opinions

A while back I rid myself of ALL of my amps and have only been using my HeadRush Gigboard and FRFR. It sounds great and I absolutely love the portability.

Here’s the thing, though. My music/practice room feels kind of empty, like something important is missing………..Of course it is, you moron! You got rid of all of your amps!

So here I am, looking for advice from y’all. I don’t want to spend tons just to fill a perceived amp void. There is a relatively cheap Marshall 8040 Valvestate for sale locally.

Has anyone had or played one? Are they any good? There is surprising little useful information on these on the Interwebs.

Thanks for the info, guys. I think I have decided to hold out and maybe look for a DSL40CR.
DSL40 cr is a very good amp. Takes me back to my first Forum, Marshall Forum join got a 40cr & chopped it into a head. Good ol @Mitch Pearrow SJMP had just joined at same time. he was posting clips from his garage & i was taking the 40cr into the studio every week.

Actually BFT , not to be rude but I think that was a 40C. I had one also. The CR is the modern version I believe.
My only gripe with any of the DSL's is it feels like they short changed the output transformer basically not giving the power it deserves.Even the 100w. That is imho.

I'm sure you get what I mean because you have a 900.

I guess there is a place in the line up for well mannered little brother. Lol
In fact the 1wCR is something I am jonesing for.

I think what people forget on DSL

Put it on v30/t75 more modern

Greenbacks - classic

Puts some Eminence under it it can sway very nice towards fatter sound.

Marshall from JTM 45 on up did very well each new model for capturing where music was heading in their strengths.

Call me up for a gig, DSL will handle anything from jazz to metal to folk to country all without even needing help in front end.

I will never forget on MF the CR bashing.. my response literally took to the studio that week - no pedals-no nothing..that is Ultra chan everyone says is no good lol. Forum actually inspire me to the get gear that gets bagged on & then sit back & enjoy the misinformation as it spews forward from people who dont own the gear even

..

I really don't mind the forum. The amp just wasn't for me.
Sure remember when the DSL/Origin came out , that was wild one for a sec. Had a lot of fun recording it every week & posting actual use from a pro studio...never used 1 pedal in it, just a super responsive amp. Actually with 20/40 setting..it was like 2 amps. The badgering right before they even shipped led me to the DSL 40 cr & now have the Origin.

Gotta say looking back marshall absolutely nailed it.. Modern (DSL) & Retro(origin) in a gigging amp & home use friendly. Maybe not for everybody but 2 very usable amps doing exactly what they were intended to do.

The Origin tilt is darn close to a 4 holer adjustment & loves speaker changes from thick bassmanish to driven plexi. It takes SD1 properly & you can dime that volume & ride the volume knob just like the old days.
