There's certainly enough to build one. It's so cold the kids aren't even out playing in it.

You might be right. When I first put dye to it I actually thought it was too light and thought about making my dye mixture darker, but I did another pass and wiped it down in the middle before it could soak in with just a wet rag (no dye) thinking it would darken around the edges to create a burst. I was getting a little bit of a burst at first, but then it all just blended in as it all got darker and turned dirty looking as it sat.

I have a couple of coats of tru-oil on it now, maybe after a few more it'll get some depth and start to look better...I hope. It's much darker than what I had in mind.

Not every piece of wood takes stain the way you might want.
The odd wood at the Gibson factory winds up under a gold top...

I kinda like the dark. Looks rich.
 
I like it. But then my favorite guitar is oiled unfilled mahogany. I kinda dig raw.

And maybe it’s reminding me of a guitar I played for many years back in the ‘70s, a Les Paul Deluxe that had lost its original gold top. The previous owner taped off a center stripe about as wide as the pickup rings and stained the “wings.” Very distinctive, and with those minihums, a real screamer.
