Well folks, I made the plunge today. Went to Menards and bought the wood to build another neck thru fretless bass. The neck billet will be: 3/4" maple center, 1/4" red oak on either side, and 3/4" hickory on the outside. Philippine mahogany body wings and a maple fingerboard. Going to try to avoid the mistakes I made on the last neck thru project. Haven't decided on a body shape yet, but it will most likely be an offset waist. Definitely staying with the pegbox headstock. Also, no truss rod. ( Ball bat neck). Also going to try something different finish wise. Not sure what yet, but it should be more minimalist than my last efforts. Taking my time with it hoping to improve my technique. I really want to do this for a living eventually. Stay tuned!

Sorry, but no clue. I hope someone else might know.Anyone?![]()
Well, if that is the case, I'm sticking with magnetic pickups!I didn't think that you could as it is such a small signal....
It's possible but the signal will be pretty weak. There is lots of preamp pedals for piezo PUs like Burkas Berry...I have a question for anyone who might know: how big of a hassle is it to run a passive piezo pickup on a solid body bass? Me and batteries don't get along.
Thank you @Amp Mad Scientist! That's exactly what I needed to know. Looks like I'm sticking with a magnetic pickup. I've got a linear humbucking Jazz bass bridge pickup that's not doing anything, so the pickup question is answered. Next, placement. My instinctive impulse is somewhere between standard Jazz bass bridge pickup position and the Music Man Stingray sweet spot. It's possible but the signal will be pretty weak. But generally it needs a preamp and a battery internal or external.
There is bridge saddles with piezo too I think...but same problem with signal levels.Thank you @Amp Mad Scientist! That's exactly what I needed to know. I've seen those. Think I'll stick with what I know, just to be on the safe side, lolThere is bridge saddles with piezo too I think...but same problem with signal levels.
