Love The Trumpet

Trumpets are nice…. But I’m a trombone kinda guy….. as was both sons and a granddaughter, who’s used her horn to earn a music scholarship to college. She’s really good.

That's a troubling image. I wonder if the person who was going to jump received necessary help and is doing okay today.

I realize the image was intended as a humorous retort to the OP, but that's the kind of thing I think about.

I can, and sometimes do, listen to Chet Baker all day long, so I definitely like the Trumpet in Jazz, but have never appreciated it in pop/rock music. And I have a spot in hell set aside for Blues that has brass instruments in it (I like my Blues to sound like it just crawled out of a Mississippi swamp). On the other hand I really do like a Sax in pop/rock at times, so it's not a total no-fly zone for me.

I get and largely agree with your thoughts about trumpet in blues. But, Motown - which is a veritable kissing cousin to the blues - sounds great with brass instruments.

Funny how that is.

That's what they tried to get me to play in 5th grade. They wanted me to play the trumpet.
Then I said no, I wanna play electric guitar. I wanna be a rock star.
My parents loved that, I'm sure.

I knew this jazz singer named Nora.
She said that when she grew up, she wanted to be a Saxophone.

I wanted to play trumpet. 6th grade I believe. Band director felt trombone fit me better. So.... that's the route I took. Worked out for me..... and as it turns out the next two generations. My legacy.

Now is as good a time as any to admit that I can't stand Motown. I know, I know, I've heard it all before, but I have hated that sound my whole life.

Motown not a favorite.... but I'll listen to it before I'll listen to Rap or HipHop.

My granddaughter who rode her ability playing trombone to a music scholarship..... as a Freshman, had a paying gig last weekend.
