love it --hate it -- Marshall Origin 20

Geez, I didn't mean to get all yer panties in a bunch.

My Origin was nice as I said.

It just doesn't do this^. Not even in the same ball park as far as pick dynamics go. You hit one string a little hard with this and you can scare yourself.

I've thought about a JCM or a type of 4 holer, but I'm able to play a lot of them through colleagues, including Trainwrecks and Tim Caswell #39 modded amps, and they just don't deliver...to my ears anyways.

The exception is when George Lynch slammed #39 with a TS-9. Now, that sounds good to my ears.

The only thing a DSL40C needs is an ECC823 in V1. That simple mod makes it super versatile...
I do something similar in my JCM2000 DSL50: I use an ECC82 (12AU7) in V1. It chokes a fair bit of the gain , mostly on the crunch section of the Classic Gain channel but opens up a lot more headroom, to where you can get a lot closer to the old school cranked Plexis/JMPs

thats why they make all kinds ;)

-- I tradded a DSL head for the origin head --- I didnt like the FIZZ factor of the DSL -- and it was "too metal" -- (yes I said it)

I have 2 other amps that DO METAL very well....I wanted a more old school NOT FACVE MELTING Marshall tone and am very happy with the sounds the Origin makes ... the young fella I traded to is VERY HAPPYT with the DSL as he was in a metal band and WANTED face melting metal tones --- so all ended up happy :)
Which DSL? And you know they are suppose to be different amps? They really don't seem fizzy to me....not exactly a classic 60's tone when you hit the red channel but it's not made for that and...

DSL50 for me. Part of the original JCM2000 line, extremely versatile and very dependable. It just works
I love that amp myself, one of these days it will be mine again...

Going to look at 20 head sometime today. Anybody using?

Have multiple cabs & was interested in flavoring typical Marshall & throwing American voiced cab at it to lean old school raging bassman. Not interested in metal but jtm 45ish use.

You want JTM45 from an O20?
Pop in a pair of KT66's - I did.
Cathode bias plug and play. (y)
IMght learn to mod on this amp but got a feeling speaker choice & mic position will get me close. I prefer a bassman but not quite yet. The binge is just starting to heat up lol

I did ok on the VM with kt66 w/greenback C but looking to bluesbreaker more than anything, exact no way.. unique absolutely. Have a 2x12 BB style semi open for it & 2x12 greenback closed for starters.

Heading out soon, just gonna grab it. PL (4).jpg
