Looking For a Decent Flying V Kit

So…just when I think I’ve got all I need…I just thought of something else that I…umm…”need.”

In the interest of keeping it fresh and crazy in the band, I hit upon the idea of playing some gigs with mostly a Flying V. Gotta keep ‘em guessing!

But, I’m looking for a kit. I have some specific things I want it to have (like and HSS or HSH configuration) and some other things, so I think I’d just prefer to get a kit and build one up.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a decent Flying V kit? I’ve seen several online, but don’t wanna buy some junk.

@SG John , maybe you have some ideas?

I apologize if I just don't know, but how involved of a build are you talking about?
Are you looking for a simple paint & assemble type of thing, or do you have tools to customize?
A set neck kit is going to be more technically involved than a bolt-on.
Typically, kit = junk, as far as supplied hardware and general workmanship quality out of the box.
So, adding budget for better pups, pots, machines, etc., on top of the obligatory finishing supplies is going to add up quick.
If you want to DIY because of "some specific things", have you considered just modding a production guitar?
Lots of guitars come with factory pup routs for HSS or HSH even if that's not what you see in the configuration being sold.
My SSS Strat is routed for HSH, so swapping a pickguard and a humbucker got me HSS with a little soldering.

If you can make sure it's white limba wood the real one I got in 1988 is a screamer 5.5 pounds.
My friend Troy was over yesterday he was talking about the sound I was getting just my Marshall Super Lead 100 and the Vee
that was 1999 the only time I played it on stage.

Not exactly HSH or HSS but, technically it could be? This is a triple H Configuration but if one were to use the basic blank Gibson V Pickguard, you already have the cavity carved open, nearly a swimming pool design. So you could load either configuration really.

Smitty, I have a 2010 Epi V (1958 Korina model) in excellent shape just sitting here collecting dust (in the hard shell case). We could work out a good deal for ya, the only thing I’m not sure of is if I have a big enough box to ship it in. It’s a great place to start modding…

I’ll vouch for Precision Guitar Kits too. They use high quality wood, and their bodies and necks are cut, carved, and routed with high precision. PGK takes the time to make sure the neck heel and pocket match up perfectly, which makes gluing the neck to the body a simple task. They’re not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

This reminds me…
I wonder why Warmoth doesn’t offer set-neck kits? I’m sure they have contemplated it before… :hmmm:

Nice offer, sysco. To be honest, though, with the customized mods I'd want to make, I'm thinking it would be better just to start with a kit. I'd want to change the finish, too.

But, that is a very kind offer.

For HSS or HSH pickup options without breaking out the router, this would be my choice.
Just need a custom pickguard and swap out whatever hardware you desire.
