Long lost friend, one 12AX7 later…

This amp went flakey about 3 years ago and I just turned it off and let it collect dust. Well, got out the trusty chop stick today and went poking around for bad tubes. 3rd one I bumped cracked and snapped like a wounded animal. Replaced the 12AX7 and rechecked the bias (still spot on). These are the original tubes from when I bought the amp around 1997. Plays like a dream again !

That's one of a handful of Fender Amps I have always loved and would gladly own ( along with any old Champ, Bassman or Super Reverb). One of the most distinct cleans ever, but can get some great dirty tones too if driven properly.

I found the receipt for it. Looks like I bought it for a Christmas present to myself in 1998.

The 135 watt twin I had was the best amp I ever owned. Just too big and heavy to move. Mine had the JBL orange basket speaker upgrade. It was from the early 80's I believe.

I sold it to a couple of local kids who have a band. They played it for about 30 seconds and fell in love. Young pups can lug that beast around better than I ever could!
