I tried to do a custom install and do it in the empty drive and couldn’t do it, had to do the side by side.
The empty drive window could not reformat, would give me an error message. I did move the my documents folder around and the drive now has the my document icon, whatever that means. Maybe I can reformat it using Linux and then redo the instal. I do have a win 11 pc and a win 10 pc other than this one, so….., The only need for widows on that pc would be to look at the hardware, as I am not sure how good Linus is with that.
But I will check the format required for installing Linux and try to reformat that drive

I might have unplugged the main drive to boot into the other drive but somehow you need the boot record to show both drives after you install it on the intended drive. I wish I remembered it enough to help. I know it can be done.
 
Well, in Linux I formatted the other drive, disk 2, so I think tomorrow I will go in windows erase the Linux drive on disk 1, reinstall Linux in the blank 1 TB drive disk 2, have 1 win drive and 1 Linux drive. I couldn’t instal it on that drive , Disk 2, today because it wasn’t formatted properly, I think

You are going through a lot of the same things I did years ago but it’s worth it.
I am going to eventually get a Linux computer set up. It’s fun to play with and to me it is far superior to the alternative.

Tried to install on a separate drive, no go, it needs to format a boot drive and another drive not obviuos to do the custom instal if you do not read/know what you are doing.
Anyways, the way to go is pull the power plug on the windows drive. But now the GRUB doesnt offer me the option to boot in windows i have to go back do BIOS to boot in windows which i killed but was able to recover with F12 and HP recovery partition.
After about 25 restart, .....
