Let’s talk Strings

Wound Gs... I cannot imagine on an electric....strong hands!!

I use 9 - 42 on the shredders, sometimes hybrid 9 - 46 and 10 - 46 on most others. Ususally EBs. Just put Paradigms on the EVH.
Might try 9.5s and split the difference somewhere...

There are a lot of solos you could not play with a wound 'g' string.

Sounds good. Used 10s for decades on everything.
You should try the 9.5s. They give you the weight of the tens and slink of nines. Beautifully in the middle.

I put a loose 42 E on instead of the 44 they come with. For some reason the 44 feels too fat and out of place with the set. Had they provided a 43 it might have been completely ideal.

Man Sap , really ? a 42 ? Neon ?
Just busting your chops , it's all good !
But pink right ?

Do you guys feel scale length matters when it comes to gauge?

I don’t know if it’s in my head or if it’s actually a thing, but I feel a difference.

I feel if I put 9s on a 24.75” scale, the strings feel more rubbery vs a 25.5”.

Again that might be in my head.

Another perfect example is my BC Rich Warbeast. I have 10-52 on it and tuned to C# std.
I did the same thing to my Epi Explore GT and it feels “looser”

Don’t know about gauge. I do 9s on the Strat an 10s on the G400. The Epi gives me the sense of being more “bendy” than does the Strat. It may have more to do with scale vs string gauge. But that’s just my unqualified hypothesis.

Yes, 42 gives me that deep drop A tuning that I absolutely love. See, while you guys do open sludge I do double open sludge. :)

As far as the pink it really depends how "fancy" I'm feeling at an actual time of purchase.

Wow, your string selection is easy!

For me, for Gibsons I use GHS Boomers 10-46, with a .018 wound 3rd.

For my Stratocaster and Jackson, I use a GHS Boomers 9-42, but I replace the .011 second string with a .012. I also replace the 3rd string with a .018 wound third.

For my Gretsch I use the same as the Gibsons: GHS Boomers 10-46, with a .018 wound 3rd. I use this even though the Gretsch White Falcon (unlike the Electromatics) has the same scale length as Fender. The heavier gauge works better with a Bigsby.

For my acoustic I use Elixir 80-20 Bronze Polywebs 12-53.

I normally keep my guitars at standard tuning, though I occasionally will detune my acoustic 1/2 or 1 step.

I'm toying around with trying some regular phosphor bronze strings on the acoustic...just to see what happens.

I experiment from time to time.

D'Addario 10-46 Nickel wound, for this guy..never had a string break in 8 years of playing. I am a believer don't fix it unless its broken...;)
Amen. I don't think I've ever changed a string unless it broke or I wanted to try a new gauge or something. Acoustics are different in that their whole sound is rooted in fresh strings.

No. It's not in your head. It's physics.

Crazy thing for me is I felt the total opposite as for feel and still do. So I know it is in my head. I always felt Strats seemed looser than Les Pauls and SG's using 10's.
