Leslie West:

Well--- we wondered into "tone" with the WHo......made me think of my FAVORITE LEs Paul guitar tone----- Randys -----man I love that sound

I like Mr West but it doesn't take very good care of himself. He has sugar and he had a leg cut off above the knee. He will never stand on his own because no fake leg has a knee and he is still not doing the same bad behavior. I see his name and think the worst. He is dead and getting buried with a Dean.

Last time I checked he was still alive.

Here's his tone in a nutshell.....

I noticed the SUNN's too in some of the Mountain clips.

Weasel, after listening to this guy jam, if I got seriously MANIC and did nothing but pick apart his playing note for note, riff for riff, technique repertoire for hours and weeks on end, plus added the same focus to some other instructionals I have on file, I could seriously see myself progressing to where my hands can duplicate what my ears hear.

I may not get the exact tones but I would at least have the riffs down to a point of being able to further refine my practicing to work toward copying the tones of my favorite players. Leslie, Ted, Alex, Billy F, Marriott, Iommi, BB, Albert etc.

I know Robert is well aware of my admiration of Alex Lifeson's tone and playing,

Here is one of my favorite examples of his Humbucker sound. Likely played on an ES 335.
Listen to him make it wail and scream!!!!!

Mountain - Leslie West, Corky Laing, Felix Pappalardi, and Steve Knight live at the Henry Lewitt Arena, Witchita State University, Witchita, KS, March 25, 1971. OPENING for MOUNTAIN? BLACK SABBATH. Leslie West showcases his pitch shifting (without a pedal) and vibrato techniques which were in a league of there own. Jack Bruce said Leslie had the best vibrato in the business. You can see here why Big Les is called the King of Tone. Contains a wicked "Dirty Shoes" and "Dreams of Milk and Honey"

Robert, I think you will like this recording. I hit upon this with my headphones on and knew from the first tune up notes, this was a serious performance.
Any chance you saw this show, Tony?

I just ordered another Mountain CD LOL.
I got a best of; I have Climbing!

Never really got my Missippi Queen down good and moved on to other things to practice and mangle.
Have not been able to get IM Piece of Mind out of the player.

Forgot to put Albert King Blues at Sunset back in my cart while distracted by specs on Zener diodes!

...a little off topic...but I am constantly looking for new music, Blues in particular and I just discovered this guy.

Some of you may know of him, but I did not...
