Buddy, I been playing more than a few guitars today.

Question - if the wood has no influence, then why does a Les Paul and a SG with the same T-Tops and pot/cap values, sound so different????

Pickup placement in relation to bridge.

And maybe to a lesser extent....mass?
I had to get both my 2012 LP traditional & 2013 60's tribute SG out to check bridge pickup placement (I know neck is quite different). Both have the bridge pickup the same distance from the bridge saddles, about 21mm on the low E & 18mm on the high E to the edge of the pickup. Both have a slightly overwound T top type in the bridge position (& I've swapped them over in the past, sound the same in each guitar). The SG has the typical SG mid hump without the bottom end of an LP, the LP has the typical big slab of meaty LP tone. They definitely sound quite different. I don't know why they do, but they do. Cheers

Interesting bridge pickup placement on Adrian's guitar...That's moved forward, more like my doubleneck:

Now compare the position of the bridge pickup on a Gibson EDS-1275 - Mine was moved forward intentionally to try and capture some of the middle pickup "Black Beauty" tone:

Now, to get back on track, I have never seen a Les Paul with Humbuckers having the bridge pickup shifted forward, like Adrian's Sonnex. Is it safe to say that all Gibson Les Paul's with Humbuckers have the bridge pickup the same distance from the bridge???

How does the solid body electric guitar sound acoustically? Why even entertain that thought? That is not why that guitar was made. Pretty or a total mess the steel strings and those pickups are the big dogs on that street. Nickel wound steel strings or steel wound strings, the magnets only have the steel to deal with. Wood is pretty and is there to keep your stuff in position. Wood does nothing with a magnetic force. All that other stuff is fluff so you feel better about how much you spent on it.
Steel, magnets and reading the spin of a picked string.

There are two schools of thought; body material affects tone to a degree, & body material has no affect on tone & its been debated almost as long as electric guitars have been around. Neither school of thought has been proven or disproven. So all we are left with is opinions. Cheers
