I like how your guitar player is mic'ing his guitar, instead of using a pickup.
Yeah, he's a luddite... Davie made his mind up a long time ago that acoustic guitar pickups suck,
and he isn't interested in the FACT that there's been a lot of progress made in the technology in
the last 30 years. *grins
I don't argue with him about it, just indulge his whims because
we're equal partners and we've been banging our heads against it together for so long. He plays a '67 Martin D-35 and feels that it sounds best through a microphone.
He's right, but that doesn't solve the problem of live performance, where mic placement is critical.
So I've outfitted myself with equipment that solves these problems for me. He's willing to accept the lack
of presence and/or the feedback problems he gets. He either disappears from the mix or makes a big
feedback sound when he's not paying attention.
I don't agree with this, unless you're in a studio situation, standing on a marker with mics placed
precisely by a good engineer,
and then I do. If he pays attention, and keeps his guitar placed perfectly,
it sounds stunning. So it's hard to argue with that, until he moves out of the perfect zone, and then
his tone falls apart. *shrugs ...Everybody loves him anyway, including me.
IMHO for live performance, nothing beats an excellent quality guitar pickup like the Baggs Lyric.
Most soundmen can deal with my rig better than with David's insistence on a mike. *shrugs
But when they get it right, that D-35 is a great sounding guitar.
All right, back to thread ye swabs! Here's another great "final song..."
