Larrivee Guitars - Thoughts????

Larrivee is a pimpin' guitar in with the top notch names like Martin, Taylor, Lowden, Bourgeois, Collins, Santa Cruz, Furch, etc.

The only drawback is it's Canadian made.

:p
Completely kidding! Just wanted to get Session 5's goat a bit. Lol.

Congrats on a very beautiful, high-end and well respected guitar and brand.

LOL! Thank you Sapient.

Larivee was started in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1967 but moved out to Victoria and then Vancouver, British Columbia to be closer to the tone wood. In 2001 a second factory was opened in Oxnard, California.

In 2013 the Canadian factory was closed and all Larrivee guitars are now manufactured in Oxnard.

Mine was made in 2013 in Oxnard.

Congratulations on making an excellent choice.
L'Arrivee is one of the best. I saw one in a guitar store once, and played it
and was mesmerized... I put it back on the rack even though I could have
afforded it. Dreamed about it that night and came back the next day to buy
it and (*) disappearo... some other gorilla took the lady home.

I've always regretted that. Love the matt finish on yours. Reminds me of the
one that got away.

I have an opportunity to pick up a Larrivee D-04W acoustic dreadnaught in a trade. The "W" in the model stands for Walnut (sides and back) but it has a Canadian Sitka Spruce top. The entire guitar is solid wood, so no laminates or veneers, and the neck is one piece Mahogany. The fretboard and bridge are Ebony. It is one of 75 examples that were made as a limited run for Long and McQuade, the biggest music retailer here in Canada. It also has a Fishman acoustic pickup, factory installed.

Do any of you have any experience with Larrivee? I was initially looking for a Taylor but this one has presented itself and I am seriously considering it.

Any information or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Larravie is a better designed and built guitar than a Taylor at any comparable price point. I would always opt for the Larravie against a Taylor.

A friend I was in a fledgling band with, Jeff, apprenticed with Larrivee in the late 80's and luthiered there for a number of years. He's doing his own thing now...
