Wanted to say thank you and give kudos to HackMaster and eSGEe for a very pleasant surprise today. eSGEe dropped off 3 old Sun speakers that HackMaster sent my way. Never met the guy and dude sent some speaker this way anywho - very cool. Two work great and might I add sound AWESOME cranked thru a tube head. The one needs a little TLC buy I think it's repairable. Anyways, thanks again you two. Here are a couple pictures I took of the speakers:

The speakers ooze with the sonic vibe. Yepper HackMaster did provide some nice speakers (again, very cool), but you didn't have to cart 'em to my door like you did, so kudos to ya both.

I'll have to remove the speaker dust cap on the one to repair (hopefully) the one, as the braided wire is out of the cone on one side. The other is just off the terminal connector. But, I think the speaker is worth a new dust cap and new braid wire. I originally thought about re-using the original dust cap or a like replacement. However, I got to thinking about it and you know, putting a vintage paper dust cap on it would provide just I bit less brightness. Now, think of using two in one cab; one speaker with an aluminum cap and one with a paper cap. Just a thought. Might add to the mojo ;)

Well maybe you can make me a big combo rig with one some day lol .....like someday wehn I ahve the room to PUT one in the office!

I am FULL lol

I cut the most of the dust cap off and tested the voice coil leads. The cone moves freely, 9v battery tests moves the cone both in and out nicely, and it's coming in at 6.9 ohms. The picture shows 7 ohms, but the cables have 0.1 ohms themselves, so 7 - .1 = 6.9 type thing. So, next up, I have to see if I can get the remainder of the dust cover off with destroying the speaker. Here's a pic:

Remainder of dust cover removed. Not too shabby. Here's to images from two different directions. Just have to be real care soldering on the new braid and then pretty much home free...

Well, good thing I was thinking of using paper as the only 3.5" dust covers I can find are paper with no vents.

I don't do this very often, but from what I understand pretty much any adhesive that remains semi flexible will do. I imagine the lighter the glue (weight wise) the better. I've contacted a couple speaker repair places in the hopes of getting a dust cap, tinsel wire, and the adhesive from one place so they all play well together. And, maybe they might dig to find the same type dust cap. I've searched hi and lo and can't find a 3.5" aluminum dust cap with a center vent anywhere, so, it's looking like paper is what I'm going to be going with whether I'd like to or not. Should have looked first I guess, as I could have at least tried to save the old dust cap. Oh, well, good-good-good-vibrations keep on a flowing either way ;)

I would look on Ebay for the same speaker but blown and just take the cover from that, relist the blown spkr on Ebay again to keep costs down

One of the three places I contacted got back with me today. They have the aluminum one with a center vent, it's just not listed on their website. Just kind of waiting to see if the other two get back with me to see what they have and for how much type thing.

A 3.5" paper dust cap with lip, 1 foot of tinsel wire, and adhesive is on the way. I decided to go with the paper kind of an A/B to the original aluminum dust caps. Plus, it may make for an interesting mixed 2x12 pair (one with paper dust cap and one with aluminum dust cap).

What is the tinsel wire ???Back when i worked at the papermill we used this copper tinsel wire but it was called Static Wire used to combat static on machines that ran paper for paper products.
