Crazy little known fact: after recording Gretchen Goes To Nebraska, Ritchie Blackmore called up Doug Pinnick to audition for Deep Purple following Ian Gillan's firing from the band in 1989 ( he rejoined again, permanently in 1992). Doug politely declined the offer, explaining that he was confident with King's X future. Ritchie told him " No Problem" and wished him well.

Had Doug joined, ironically, he wouldve been a singer only as Ritchie planned to keep Roger Glover on bass. A bizarre offer really lol
