Keep fit

Closer to 70 than 60 now so doing what I can to keep fit and maintain a good lifestyle. High summer for us, forget the heat, just back from a 3 hour bush walk. Only saw one black snake, always make a bit of noise and they get out of your way.
Photo looking down into Stanwell Park, the Royal National Park beyond then Sydney.

Note the leggings to protect from snake bite. Will be spending a lot more time on the mountain above home now, so much better than walking on the man made cycle paths along the beach front.

Beutiful scenery, man! My wife and I spent the symmer of 2003 (that's our summer and you winter) trvelling around Australia. It was the best holiday I've ever had. We're definitely going back.

Given that you have been down this way you probably know ... Australia is pronounced "Stralia", well in some circles it is ;)
Big country, how long were you here and what parts did you visit.

You're the same age as me. Here's my recent piece of keeping fit. Norway this time - a long walk through the mountains. It ended up with a treat for the young one - she took a dip in the sea; not for me, thanks - it wasn't far above freezing!

Good stuff Don.
I'm a little like your young one. At the end of a little adventure if there's a dumb thing to do I usually say "yes please".
Some years back at the end of a walk in Tasmania (our coldest state) I took the ocean dip, coldest water I've ever endured.
Note ENDURED not ENJOYED

We stayed for about four weeks. Started out in Bendigo, Victoria (where my sister-in-law was a student at the time). Then we went to Melbourne, visited a friend of my mother-in-law's in Hamilton, Victoria, went on to Adelaide, flew to Sydney, on to Noosa Heads and ended our stay in Brisbane. Saw seven different breweries on the way, visited beautiful cities, saw lots of great scenery, went fishing, ate tons of great food, met lots of great people, and found out my wife was pregnant with our first son. Loved every second of it!

Are you saying the stork isn't real? Last week father Christmas, this week the stork. Next you are going to be telling me the tooth fairy is made up!

Oh the old stork story, actually it does have something to do with a stork. Moving on quickly now, back to fitness ...
My son and I back in 1982, was about to run my first marathon.
Did a few more but cut back as the time training had to go to my kids not some sport.

My keeping fit - OK, having fun, but it results in keeping fit - these days is mostly skiing in winter, or biking and sailing in summer. I used to run but I realised it wasn't doing great things to my knees, so i stopped. I did the London marathon back in 1989 and managed 4 hours 8 minutes.

Those who run marathons all do it tough regardless of the time on the circuit. The fast ones hurt a lot but for less time, the slower hurt for longer.
That one (my first) in photo was run in 3 hours 30 mim 25 sec. I was so disappointed as those with 3:30 or better went into a draw to win a trip to the Boston.
I got down to 3 hrs 10 min but gave up, too much time every day on the road.
After that I got into track cycling and then Audax riding, usually 200 km rides.

Pictures of paradise. Very nice!

Just remembered one of the best things on that walk - wild blueberries. They were deep purple all the way through - not green in the middle like the ones in the shops. And water from the springs, it had a slightly peaty taste but really refreshing. And great not to have to carry it in bottles.

Leeping fit ain't exactly what I have been doing these days.

I have trouble trying to be properly "lean", but I am consideranly active, all right.

Scenery? This is where I spend most of my time

And this is what I do to keep being able to stand on two legs

Winter fitness = snow surfing
Summer fitness = windsurfing

Both good for fitness.
The first photo in the snow is what I imagine Canada to look like all year round. :)
The second, well ... wet suits in summer, strange.
Keep active ladies and gentlemen, we aren't getting any younger.
