Just listened to this album for the first time in my entire life...

Is it just me...or is is there a hint of Chuck Berry in this?

Just a hint...

Maybe?

For sure. Their influences come out here and there, just like any other band, but one of the things I like about them the most is they mostly left the shackles of the blues and R&B behind and pushed hard rock as it's own unique thing.

Smitty, have you taken on "Kiss Alive" yet? It's nothing less than a seminal live recording, one of the very best hard rock records from the 1970's.

I've gotta go back and catch up on those. I've focused on the studio stuff to this point.

Gene is a solid -- no B.S. bass player-- its meat and potatoes bass IMHO-- and it works and it fits and DRIVES the music---
check Ac/Dc Cliff Williams (Gene does fancier stuff than him) -- but both DRIVE-- hard rock bands--- this aint RUSH or YES--- or JP Jones Led Zeppelin ----its KISS--
non thinking balls out FUN
FYI---- I OWN a G3 GRABBER bass (had a Epi Ripper too) -- Genes preferred Early Weapons--- he used a THunderbird VERY early as well (got one of them too)
I have a few LEsters too---- Aces prefered---
I even have a ROSE tattoo on my SHOULDER!!!!!!!
I bleed black and white theatrical paint ;)
I GREW UP on this stuff----- after listenig to some of tiu can you see how the ENERGY would snag a prepubescent American Male-0----and TOTALLY ruin them??????
:) THANKS MOM!!!!!

DUDE-- I wore out multiple ALIVE and ALIVE II albums----8 tracks---- cassettes-----AND CD'S! ---

I'm impressed at how heavy it sounds.

What were Paul and Ace using for amps?

Again, "Deuce" and "Cold Gin" sound good.

Also...and I know I keep commenting on Peter...but he seems so much more dynamic and powerful in these earlier recordings.

theres one of the Gibson RIPPERS---- ah the NORLIN years --- Pauls got a L5 ??? I think

ALSO dont see ANY traits that indicate Peter COULDNT play drums-------- and SING---- in this video --- perhaps this was PRE drug addiction---but seems tight and right to me

I really do believe Peter could play well, especially in the early years.

But, his later work after they got back together (post unmasked era) seems so much more tame. ..almost lethargic. I've read he was using drum triggers.

The studio albums are good to very good, but nowhere near state-of-the-art for the time, unfortunately. Kiss Alive is clearly behind other live albums from the era in sound quality (Stangers in the Night/All The World's a Stage) but Alive II sounds great.

Okay...you convinced me.

Wish me luck...

I'm diving into Alive II...

I'll be back in a bit.

If I don't make it out alive (see what I did there?)....tell my wife and kids I love them...
