About a month ago an old work colleague called me out of the blue and got me started on the path to a new job and new opportunity. He was hired as the General Manager of a new office in my area for the company he works for, which is a direct competitor of the company I currently work at. After a meeting with a few executives and some phone calls, I'm expecting an offer letter on Monday to join the new team.
I'm excited and scared
less as well since I'm moving from a mid-rank position to someone who will oversee the building of the department I'll be heading up. I'll have to perform the same duties as I currently do, as well as build up the crew for a new office. Since most of the kids are out of the house and the wife has a solid, reliable job, it is something we both saw as a good time to take some chances.
The odd thing for me is that my previous jumps have been because I've been unhappy with the company I worked for, or as of my last job, the department was being folded up. I have a stable position at a very large company which has it's challenges but isn't all that horrible. The new company is another large shop but from what I understand has a lot less big-box bureaucracy that I'm currently stacked up against.
So here's to a new shop and a new chapter. Hopefully it doesn't kill me.
