Roger that. Got in a discussion with a guy several years ago on another forum. Dared to suggest Angus Young would sound like Angus regardless the guitar or amps he was plugged into. Might take him a few minutes to EQ things..... but ...... The guy vehemently disagreed with me.
I agree with you. No matter what guitar and amp I'm using, I'm gonna dial it in as close as I can to the sound I like, and I'm still gonna play the way I play.
I prefer certain things, like I prefer Teles over anything, because I can pick up a Tele and I know exactly how it's going to respond, and what I can do with it. I like Les Pauls also for the same reason. No surprises. Just a solid guitar that does exactly what I want it to do. I have a lot of experience with a lot of different guitars, but those guitars are my home base.
My LTD is the same, it may look like some kind of Super Strat shredder guitar, but it's not that far from a Tele: Fixed bridge, bolt on neck, 25.5" scale, two pickups, one volume one tone, three way switch. Or a Les Paul: Two humbuckers, maple top, TOM style bridge, flatter radius. It's like a great hybrid.
However, I can pick up a Strat, Or an Es 335, or whatever, and I'm still gonna sound like me, because it's me playin' it.
The point is, Yeah, I have things that I prefer, and feel comfortable with, and there may be some superficial tonal variation with different guitars and amps, but no matter what I'm playing I'm gonna sound like me because I ain't tryin' to sound like anyone else.
