Jimi Hendrix died 50 years ago today

Easily.

It's the kind of thing you listen to for 12 minutes, and when you are done you need to sit in quiet for a while to just emotionally process what you've just heard. And serious props need to be extended to Buddy Miles on that one as well.

I find myself getting lost in music in general, but Hendrix reminds me of vaping hash oil while sipping Absinthe....deep and mysterious.

They'll be releasing his last American concerts on November 20. I deeply love Hey Baby/In From the Storm. I'm looking forward to a better official release mixed by Eddie Kramer. My love for his music is so deep and deeply personal, I find I like to listen to his music alone with headsets (with my eyes closed). He's a sentimental favorite forever.

Jimi introduced me to the blues with Red House on Smash Hits. I can't "thank him enough" for that. Remember is one of my favorite studio songs. I'm surprised it never "took off".

I've always wondered what he would be up to if he had lived. Then, I saw Buddy Guy playing in the Saturday Night Live Band. For a few minutes, I could imagine an older Hendrix being active like that.

I've been a fan since I was 18 or so (1985) ... my favourite stuff was Band of Gypsys with Buddy Miles and Billy Cox.

I used to have an LP like this. People are asking a lot of money for these on eBay now but mine was sold long ago for a pittance.

Of course this cover is very strange because only Jimi out of the three people who actually played on it are represented.

My favorite was Electric Ladyland. This album pushed the limits of modern music well past the outskirts of infinity.
Hendrix picks up the guitar and shows the whole planet - how it's gonna be.

Hurrah i awake from yesterday, alive but the war is here to stay.
So my love Katherina and me decide to take our last walk through the noise to the sea.
Not to die but to be re-born, away from a life so battered and torn....

I can go on forever talking about Jimi. On my bucket list is a trip to Seattle to pay my respects at his memorial. One of my favorite stories about Hendrix was one time a fan asked him how to play one of his songs. In his gentle manner he said " Don't play my songs, play your songs". I have taken that to heart as I have never played a Hendrix song in my 50+ years of playing (hacking) guitar. I have always been slightly offended when others have played his music. Those was his. I understand the need to pay tribute to him. I really do. But no one has ever come close to expressing the feeling and originality that went into his music. Sorry, I'm ranting. He has always meant that much to me.

You'll have to forgive me then because I've been covering Hendrix songs for years...

For me, when I cover someone's song, I learn something about them in how the song was written and how the passages are constructed.

Recording my cover of "All Along The Watchtower" was the realization of a dream i had as a child to one day learn that song and perform it, after watching a live performance by Hendrix...

I apologize Robert. I meant no disrespect. I guess my feelings come from hearing other artists playing his songs over the years and totally butchering them. Hendrix and his music are so near and dear to my heart. On the other hand, Eric Johnson did a fantastic version of Love or Confusion.

Side three is my favorite on that record. That song in particular is one of my top three favorite tracks along with “Hey Baby, New Rising Sun” and “Dolly Dagger.” Many more other favorites.
