Me too. I would rather pay more and get something in really good shape. I use my stuff, I am careful but I play hard and little scratches etc happen. I never play with belts etc. My amps have covers and I have bought a few used but if they look destroyed I don't bother. Makes me wonder how many beers have spilt in the back.
 
@Kerry Brown have to thank you for this thread. Had the DSL50 out in the hall on the chopping block & up for sale. @Mitch Pearrow SJMP would shoot me if i had no DSL, It had been the basic backdrop of a good chunk of the music last 3 years. Just put it on the Mesa Cab & it brought out some depth..it kills in the 1960bx & a new flavor will get it back in the recording rotation. Phew..another Marshall saved !!!DSL50 OR15.jpg

But i didnt know Marshall was still going thru with the DSL problems in the newer ones too. That really pisses on the legacy of Jim Marshall to keep spitting out a problem over and over without being honest to the buyer and user.

What is the problem with that specific amp honestly? I mean i know it gets its grief, namely BECAUSE of the design flaws and not the tone quality, but what is it about that specific amp's circuitry that is so maligned for problems? Was it just cheap components or the lay out, in your opinion?

I used to call Marshall, and they answered the phone.
Dudley Craven used to explain everything to me (he designed the JTM 45 and Plexi etc).
He was the nicest guy, he was cool. He taught me how to bias with a scope - over the phone - from England.

Now they won't return a phone call.
It's like the opposite of what it used to be.

Glad you rekindled a love affair for that amp! Its the one amp, no matter how many times ive drift off to another one, i always come back to. I was always big on the OD1/OD2 channel and still love them but began appreciating the Crunch section a lot and like you said, sounds great boosted.

You used to talk to Dudley? That is absolutely cool! When I first got my Marshalls, I called them a few times to get info on where licensed techs where and some simple questions about the amps themselves and they'd answer anything, no matter how little.

Earlier this year, i called them to look for some techs when i sent one of them off for a repair and they were absolutely pathetic. 3rd party call center type of stuff. Ended up taking it to a local guy who was really cool ( simple fix anyways)

really thinking of getting the SLX & bring it home.. if we gonna go out like this in life, might as well do it in way we always did it up.. getting so close to whats in my head as i learn to play guitar & drum better but not there yet... bass yes..its natural but i need more back beat & pause & lay back on the beat technique.. when i play the guitar with my fingers i can get it & cause of all the bass years but its not translating to guitar yet

Cant go wrong with the SLX either! Powerhouse amplifier. And what you play sounds absolutely GREAT to me!

I use all 4 modes. The cleans are very good , Classic channel green dimed is strait up rock territory & takes TS & boosts like a champ. I use this amp a bunch to set songs up cause it has everything you need in if you are messing with a looper just in the 4 modes for quick listen

Your amp then IS essentially a JCM2000 DSL 100 and a 50 ,because you can change from high power to low power right? They really are very similar to the 2000s except yours has newer updates like the power switching, midi controls and more footswitch controls. Hell, stick with it man! Lol

my stupid story

bass player since forever.... play anything no genre favorite , always had work & bands

guitar player bails in 2015 & i paid for 10 songs up front, talked them into reschedule cause they would not refund it all, I go get SG & 339, Bugera V22 & Peavey VK2..pull it off 4 months later on guitar in studio, Play out all summer on that CD & mid summer singer gets in trouble..had to sing the dates we committed to..sucked but it worked & the transparency paid off..many fans over the years

wife grabs mic in 2016..ahh instant blues rock..do another 10 songs in studio..practiced up, ready to go,,my cuz(phenomenal jazz bassist) & killer young drummer into much more than standard drumming..percussionist).we had a blues show with jam music..from a metal meltdown to sit down cabaret music then strait int pink floyd space music..

.wham..accident..brain injury, wife is stuttering for 6 months & her testing came back with IQ level in the 60's,,full time care taking now

she starts to get better.. start getting into Marshall's..met Mitch n MF & we kinda where on fire with music early 2018..his garage clips..my studio stuff..made for some serious enthusiasm


2018..here we go again..built full band room out back..go in studio 10 more songs, that stuff is n MF cause i posted as we went....got band ready..old drummer & my cuz,,,really tight & got wife into some heavies...wham..2:25 pm Nov 1, 2018..i am unlocking a car..i hear some people yell..i look over a BMW going 45mph hit my parked car..wife head smacks windshiled..i die inside,cause i couldn't save her..i am standing there..dude had backed up & is coming at us again.i jump in to try & grab my wife & i get knocked the hell out & wife hits her head again after he creamed us the 2nd time...a guy chased him down & he would not come back...my wife is hurt so bad..my leg is dented & our life suckssssssssssss..


i am stuck at home running 2 companies & taking care of wife,, sold my Harley & now buy gear for fun but am dead serious about making music..so freaking ready when the right players show up..will fund it all & put a band on the road when ready..

but... in reality...its time to just record..,maybe build the bandroom into a video place..set it up for concerts maybe..wife cant be around loud music & i feel so guilty if i go take a studio job or when i get asked to play in some bands locally...

when you hear the heavies..it just means i am pissed in life & nowhere left to go..rather would do texture rock..right now just want to be numb

Man im so sorry for all that :poo: thats happened and went down. Life can be a unrelenting pain in the ass sometimes and unfair as it comes to some good people for no real reason.

I really hope she's doing ok and things smooth out. But i admire your tenacity! You keep getting up every time you get knocked down and that's something you cant buy, cant teach and cant touch: survival and ambition. Keep your head up my friend, you're doing great in the music aspect anyways! Hell, im proud of ya for whatever thats worth!

Thanks. Its been tough. You find out your character... everybody is hurting now in life in so many ways..i miss the outreach concerts..we used to have such a time . My friend started a thing..Saturdays..set up in a city..few bands...would feed anybody that came..and what is mind blwing..he has built up to where the clothing he collects is in 2 church basements. At those shows..men & womans side.. Takes a full box truck for each loaded up. No questions asked..give out coat, shoes, underwear,socks, pants, shirts, It has grown & it is s amazing.. can't be part of it now & it stings cause i like to share & talk to everybody. Pretty disgusted in general these days. I wanna serve !! But can't even get out our own way now. being tested i think..something most be very good up ahead !!

Mahhatten 2016 set up between the highrise buildings on the play ground. fire up the grill & just be positive...buddies band playing ..kids in the bouncy house..DJ between sets. loud music..mid day..free food, few local org's there to help with the folks if they needed it.
